Poetry and Lyrics

Peter Gabriel

:)

SALISBURY HILL

Climbing up on Salisbury Hill
I could see the city lights

Wind was blowing, time stood still
Eagle flew out of the night...

He was something to observe
Came in close, I heard a voice

Standing, stretching every nerve
I had to listen--had no choice

I did not believe
the information

Just had to trust
imagination--

My heart going:

boom! boom! boom!

Son,
he said,

grab your things I've come to take you home.

To keep in silence I resigned
My friends would think I was a nut

Turning water into wine
Open doors would soon be shut

So I went from day to day
Though my life was in a rut

Till I thought of what I'd say
And which connection I should cut

I was feeling part of the scenery
I walked right out of the machinery

My heart going
boom! boom! boom!

Son,
he said,

grab your things I've come to take you home.

yay ah, back home...

When illusion spin her net
I'm never where I want to be

And liberty she pirouette
When I think that I am free

Watched by empty silhouettes
Who close their eyes but still can see

No one taught them etiquette
So I will show another me

Today I don't need a replacement
I'll tell them what the smile on my face meant

My heart going

Boom! Boom! Boom!

Hey,
I said,

you can keep my things
they've come to take me home!

San Jacinto
Peter Gabriel

Thick cloud - steam rising - hissing stone on sweat lodge fire
Around me - buffalo robe - sage in bundle - run on skin
Outside - cold air - stand, wait for rising sun
Red paint - eagle feathers - coyote calling - it has begun
Something moving in - I taste it in my mouth and in my heart
It feels like dying - slow - letting go of life

Medicine man lead me up though town - Indian ground -
so far down
Cut up land - each house - a pool - kids wearing water
wings - drink in cool
Follow dry river bed - watch Scout and Guides make
pow-wow signs
Past Geronimo's disco - Sit 'n' Bull steakhouse - white
men dream
A rattle in the old man's sack - look at mountain top -
keep climbing up
Way above us the desert snow - white wind blow
I hold the line - the line of strength that pulls me through
the fear
San Jacinto - I hold the line
San Jacinto - the poison bite and darkness take my sight -
I hold the line
And the tears roll down my swollen cheek - think I'm losing
it - getting weaker
I hold the line - I hold the line
San Jacinto - yellow eagle flies down from the sun -
from the sun

We will walk - on the land
We will breathe - of the air
We will drink - from the stream
We will live - hold the line

Re: Peter Gabriel

Ah! Peter Gabriel ... another older man whom I'd take home in a minute. He sits right there with Ian Hunter.

;) I thought I was an older man
you'd take home in a minute!

Who Are You?

~ The Who

Who are you?
Who, who, who, who?
Who are you?
Who, who, who, who?
Who are you?
Who, who, who, who?
Who are you?
Who, who, who, who?

I woke up in a Soho doorway
A policeman knew my name
He said "You can go sleep at home tonight
If you can get up and walk away"

I staggered back to the underground
And the breeze blew back my hair
I remember throwin' punches around
And preachin' from my chair

chorus:
Well, who are you? (Who are you? Who, who, who, who?)
I really wanna know (Who are you? Who, who, who, who?)
Tell me, who are you? (Who are you? Who, who, who, who?)
'Cause I really wanna know (Who are you? Who, who, who, who?)

I took the tube back out of town
Back to the Rollin' Pin
I felt a little like a dying clown
With a streak of Rin Tin Tin

I stretched back and I hiccupped
And looked back on my busy day
Eleven hours in the Tin Pan
God, there's got to be another way

Who are you?
Ooh wa ooh wa ooh wa ooh wa ...

Who are you?
Who, who, who, who?
Who are you?
Who, who, who, who?
Who are you?
Who, who, who, who?
Who are you?
Who, who, who, who?

(chorus)

I know there's a place you walked
Where love falls from the trees
My heart is like a broken cup
I only feel right on my knees

I spit out like a sewer hole
Yet still recieve your kiss
How can I measure up to anyone now
After such a love as this?

(chorus)

Dougie Maclean: Ready For The Storm

Ready For The Storm
by Dougie Maclean

The waves crash in the tide rolls out
It's an angry sea but there is no doubt
That the lighthouse will keep shining out
To warn a lonely sailor
And the lightning strikes
And the wind cuts cold
Through the sailor's bones
Through the sailor's soul
'Til there's nothing left that he can hold
Except a rolling ocean

Oh I am ready for the storm
Yes sir ready
I am ready for the storm
I'm ready for the storm

Oh give me mercy for my dreams
'Cause every confrontation seems to tell me
What it really means
To be this lonely sailor
And when the sky begins to clear
The sun it melts away my fear
And I shed a silent weary tear
For those who mean to love me

Oh I am ready for the storm
Yes sir ready
I am ready for the storm
I'm ready for the storm

The distance it is no real friend
And time will take its time
And you will find that in the end
It brings you me
This lonely sailor
And when You take me by the hand
And You love me, Lord, You love me
And I should have realized
I had no reasons to be frightened

Oh I am ready for the storm
Yes sir ready
I am ready for the storm
Yes sir ready
I am ready for the storm
Yes sir ready
I am ready for the storm
I'm ready for the storm

Dougie Maclean: Rite Of Passage

Rite Of Passage
by Dougie Maclean

Take the young ones to the desert
Teach them how the arrow flies
How to smell the beast upon the wind
And run with mother nature's loving lies
Show them how to balance what is wrong
And what is right
And make their own directions
Through the longest darkest night

Chorus:
Oh you need that rite of passage
Before you can continue on
That brave self understanding
You can lean your dreams upon
You may want for children
You may crave for man and wife
But you need that rite of passage
To the summer of your life

Show the children to the master
Put the tools into their hands
Show them how to work the grain
And how to hold the ever moving sand
Place with them the knowledge of the far
And of the near
And lead them through the waiting storms
That will never ever clear

It's a sad deluded vision this creature of our time
Its body now is broken
Its smile it rarely has the chance to shine
It stands so high and mighty
With its never ending needs
While somewhere in the beating heart
The earth it vainly pleads

Someday Soon

CROSBY, STILLS, NASH & YOUNG

(Graham Nash)

Someday soon you will see by the light of day
That someday soon all your worries will fade away
Keep holding on to the love that has made you strong
And someday soon heartache will all be gone

Someday soon I hope good things come to you
And someday soon hope your wishes all come true
Keep holding on to the love that has brought you here
And someday soon darkness will disappear

When life's too hard to bear for you to take it
Have faith in what you do
You've got to tell yourself
That you can make it through

Someday soon you will get to be your best
And someday soon you will finally get some rest
Keep holding on to the love that came your way
And someday soon shadows will fall away

The sensual world

Mmh, yes,

Then I'd taken the kiss of seedcake back from his mouth
Going deep South, go down, mmh, yes,
Took six big wheels and rolled our bodies
Off of Howth Head and into the flesh, mmh, yes,

He said I was a flower of the mountain, yes,
But now I've powers o'er a woman's body, yes.

Stepping out of the page into the sensual world.
Stepping out...

To where the water and the earth caress
And the down of a peach says mmh, yes,
Do I look for those millionaires
Like a Machiavellian girl would
When I could wear a sunset? mmh, yes,

And how we'd wished to live in the sensual world
You don't need words--just one kiss, then another.

Stepping out of the page into the sensual world
Stepping out, off the page, into the sensual world.

And then our arrows of desire rewrite the speech, mmh, yes,
And then he whispered would I, mmh, yes,
Be safe, mmh, yes, from mountain flowers?
And at first with the charm around him, mmh, yes,
He loosened it so if it slipped between my breasts
He'd rescue it, mmh, yes,
And his spark took life in my hand and, mmh, yes,
I said, mmh, yes,
But not yet, mmh, yes,
Mmh, yes.

THE WASP (TEXAS RADIO AND THE BIG BEAT)

I wanna tell you 'bout Texas Radio and the Big Beat
Comes out of the Virginia swamps
Cool and slow with plenty of precision
With a back beat narrow and hard to master

Some call it heavenly in it's brilliance
Others, mean and ruthful of the Western dream
I love the friends I have gathered together on this thin raft
We have constructed pyramids in honor of our escaping
This is the land where the Pharaoh died

The Negroes in the forest brightly feathered
They are saying, "Forget the night.
Live with us in forests of azure.
Out here on the perimeter there are no stars
Out here we is stoned - immaculate."

Listen to this, and I'll tell you 'bout the heartache
I'll tell you 'bout the heartache and the lose of God
I'll tell you 'bout the hopeless night
The meager food for souls forgot
I'll tell you 'bout the maiden with raw iron soul

I'll tell you this
No eternal reward will forgive us now for wasting the dawn

I'll tell you 'bout Texas Radio and the Big Beat
Soft drivin', slow and mad, like some new language

Now, listen to this, and I'll tell you 'bout the Texas
I'll tell you 'bout the Texas Radio
I'll tell you 'bout the hopeless night
Wandering the Western dream
Tell you 'bout the maiden with raw iron soul

MY WILD LOVE

My wild love went ridin'
She rode all the day
She wrote to the devil
And asked him to pay
The devil was wiser
It's time to repent
He asked her to give back
The money she spent

My wild love went ridin'
She rode to the sea
She gathered together
Some shells for her head
She rode and she rode on
She rode for a while
Then stopped for an evenin'
And lay her head down

She rode on to Christmas
She rode to the farm
She rode to Japan
And we entered a town
By this time the river
Had changed one degree
She asked for the people
To let her go free

My wild love is crazy
She screams like a bird
She moans like a cat
When she wants to be heard
My wild love went ridin'
She rode for an hour
She rode and she rested
And then she rode on
Ride, c'mon

YES, THE RIVER KNOWS

Please believe me
The river told me
Very softly
Wants you to hold me, ooo

Free fall flow, river flow
On and on it goes
Breath under water 'till the end
Free fall flow, river flow
On and on it goes
Breath under water 'till the end
Yes, the river knows

Please believe me
If you don't need me
I'm going, but I need a little time
I promised I would drown myself in mysticated wine

Please believe me
The river told me
Very softly
Wants you to hold me, ooo

Someday Soon
Judy Collins

There's a young man that I know, his age is twenty-one
Comes from down in southern Colorado
Just out of the service
And he's lookin' for his fun
Someday soon, goin' with him someday soon

My parents can not stand him 'cause he rides the rodeo
My father says that he will leave me cryin'
I would follow him right down the toughest road I know
Someday soon, goin' with him someday soon

And when he comes to call, my pa ain't got a good word to say
Guess it's 'cause he's just as wild in his younger days

So blow, you old Blue Northern, blow my love to me
He's drivin' in tonight from California
He loves his damned old rodeo as much as he loves me
Someday soon, goin' with him someday soon

When he comes to call, my pa ain't got a word to say
Guess it's 'cause he's just as wild in his younger days

Blow, you old blue northern, blow my love to me
He's drivin' in tonight from California
He loves his damned old rodeo as much as he loves me
Someday soon, goin' with him someday soon
Someday soon, goin' with him someday soon

Cold Roses
Ryan Adams

Mirrors in the room go black and blue
On a Sunday morning in Saturday shoes
We don't choose who we love
We don't choose

In a Sunday suit, with the Saturday beat
She don't love who she chose
She don't need what she do

Daylight comes in exposin'
Saturday bruises and cold roses
Cold roses

Nothin' but the sunlight'll help you grow from underneath your bed
You can't see the window
We don't choose what we see
We don't choose

Fortunate and angry just like a child
All that money buys you medicine but can't buy you time
We don't choose what we love
And she don't need what she got

Daylight comes in exposin'
Saturday bruises and cold roses
Cold roses

Cold roses
Cold roses
Cold roses

CAUTION RAp muSiC

You are now listening to the sounds of Supreme Clientele
(Tony Starck)

Step in to the party, it's me
God Almighty, Ghost still holdin that shotty
Dustin Alize', three-quarter Timbs
Terry-cloth robes, crisp hundreds in the envelope
Dookie on the globe, thank God for my Wallabee shoes
They done saved me, up three-nothin in Salt Lake City
Burgundy minks, whips with sinks in em
Brocolli blown, illa disease breath, elephant skin
Meet the black Boy George, dusted on my honeymoon
Bitch like my wife, she popped my Ghostface balloon
Bitches think that I'm Dominican, slap-hash Indian
Milk on my mustache, drop to my chiny-chin
Dive into dangerous parts, buildin with thirsty mammals
White man scream, Swim Starks sharks!

(BOBBY DIGITAL)
Smack the girl, bailbonds man stripped of eighteen bronz man
Tall like Carl Malone Mailman, framed on Larry Johnson
Tony Montana blow, creamy white Havana Joe's
Old Suzanna hoe, pussy sweet, banana flow
David Banner, gamma ray shots, beats from marinate
Bones splitted fatal Wu swords, sour amputate
Ducks is Bantom weight, we splashed the glass, ice rocks
Our cash high price stock, our logo's on your rice box
Plus your dice box, on the side upon your white socks
Bobby got the mic cocked, BUCK BUCK, nice shot

Love at first sight??

Who Ever Loved That Loved Not at First Sight?

It lies not in our power to love or hate,
For will in us is overruled by fate.
When two are stripped, long ere the course begin,
We wish that one should love, the other win;

And one especially do we affect
Of two gold ingots, like in each respect:
The reason no man knows; let it suffice
What we behold is censured by our eyes.
Where both deliberate, the love is slight:
Who ever loved, that loved not at first sight?

~~ Christopher Marlowe

I love the simple flow in this poem.
Also, makes one think. Nice imagery
and a sweet feeling here ~

Love, love love ... this poet.

"I Am Not Yours"

I am not yours, not lost in you,
Not lost, although I long to be
Lost as a candle lit at noon,
Lost as a snowflake in the sea.

You love me, and I find you still
A spirit beautiful and bright,
Yet I am I, who long to be
Lost as a light is lost in light.

Oh plunge me deep in love -- put out
My senses, leave me deaf and blind,
Swept by the tempest of your love,
A taper in a rushing wind.

~~ Sarah Teasdale

Who could say it better? A few I know,
but she is one of my Fav. poets.

Self Evident

Self Evident
Ani Difranco

yes,
us people are just poems
we're 90% metaphor
with a leanness of meaning
approaching hyper-distillation
and once upon a time
we were moonshine
rushing down the throat of a giraffe
yes, rushing down the long hallway
despite what the p.a. announcement says
yes, rushing down the long stairs
with the whiskey of eternity
fermented and distilled
to eighteen minutes
burning down our throats
down the hall
down the stairs
in a building so tall
that it will always be there
yes, it's part of a pair
there on the bow of noah's ark
the most prestigious couple
just kickin back parked
against a perfectly blue sky
on a morning beatific
in its indian summer breeze
on the day that america
fell to its knees
after strutting around for a century
without saying thank you
or please

and the shock was subsonic
and the smoke was deafening
between the setup and the punch line
cuz we were all on time for work that day
we all boarded that plane for to fly
and then while the fires were raging
we all climbed up on the windowsill
and then we all held hands
and jumped into the sky

and every borough looked up when it heard the first blast
and then every dumb action movie was summarily surpassed
and the exodus uptown by foot and motorcar
looked more like war than anything i've seen so far
so far
so far
so fierce and ingenious
a poetic specter so far gone
that every jackass newscaster was struck dumb and stumbling
over 'oh my god' and 'this is unbelievable' and on and on
and i'll tell you what, while we're at it
you can keep the pentagon
keep the propaganda
keep each and every tv
that's been trying to convince me
to participate
in some prep school punk's plan to perpetuate retribution
perpetuate retribution
even as the blue toxic smoke of our lesson in retribution
is still hanging in the air
and there's ash on our shoes
and there's ash in our hair
and there's a fine silt on every mantle
from hell's kitchen to brooklyn
and the streets are full of stories
sudden twists and near misses
and soon every open bar is crammed to the rafters
with tales of narrowly averted disasters
and the whiskey is flowin
like never before
as all over the country
folks just shake their heads
and pour

so here's a toast to all the folks who live in palestine
afghanistan
iraq

el salvador

here's a toast to the folks living on the pine ridge reservation
under the stone cold gaze of mt. rushmore

here's a toast to all those nurses and doctors
who daily provide women with a choice
who stand down a threat the size of oklahoma city
just to listen to a young woman's voice

here's a toast to all the folks on death row right now
awaiting the executioner's guillotine
who are shackled there with dread and can only escape into their heads
to find peace in the form of a dream

cuz take away our playstations
and we are a third world nation
under the thumb of some blue blood royal son
who stole the oval office and that phony election
i mean
it don't take a weatherman
to look around and see the weather
jeb said he'd deliver florida, folks
and boy did he ever

and we hold these truths to be self evident:
#1 george w. bush is not president
#2 america is not a true democracy
#3 the media is not fooling me
cuz i am a poem heeding hyper-distillation
i've got no room for a lie so verbose
i'm looking out over my whole human family
and i'm raising my glass in a toast

here's to our last drink of fossil fuels
let us vow to get off of this sauce
shoo away the swarms of commuter planes
and find that train ticket we lost
cuz once upon a time the line followed the river
and peeked into all the backyards
and the laundry was waving
the graffiti was teasing us
from brick walls and bridges
we were rolling over ridges
through valleys
under stars
i dream of touring like duke ellington
in my own railroad car
i dream of waiting on the tall blonde wooden benches
in a grand station aglow with grace
and then standing out on the platform
and feeling the air on my face

give back the night its distant whistle
give the darkness back its soul
give the big oil companies the finger finally
and relearn how to rock-n-roll
yes, the lessons are all around us and a change is waiting there
so it's time to pick through the rubble, clean the streets
and clear the air
get our government to pull its big dick out of the sand
of someone else's desert
put it back in its pants
and quit the hypocritical chants of
freedom forever

cuz when one lone phone rang
in two thousand and one
at ten after nine
on nine one one
which is the number we all called
when that lone phone rang right off the wall
right off our desk and down the long hall
down the long stairs
in a building so tall
that the whole world turned
just to watch it fall

and while we're at it
remember the first time around?
the bomb?
the ryder truck?
the parking garage?
the princess that didn't even feel the pea?
remember joking around in our apartment on avenue D?

can you imagine how many paper coffee cups would have to change their design
following a fantastical reversal of the new york skyline?!

it was a joke, of course
it was a joke
at the time
and that was just a few years ago
so let the record show
that the FBI was all over that case
that the plot was obvious and in everybody's face
and scoping that scene
religiously
the CIA
or is it KGB?
committing countless crimes against humanity
with this kind of eventuality
as its excuse
for abuse after expensive abuse
and it didn't have a clue
look, another window to see through
way up here
on the 104th floor
look
another key
another door
10% literal
90% metaphor
3000 some poems disguised as people
on an almost too perfect day
should be more than pawns
in some asshole's passion play
so now it's your job
and it's my job
to make it that way
to make sure they didn't die in vain
sshhhhhh....
baby listen
hear the train?

The true musician poet

I can't believe that you have 83 pages and not one reference to the most beautiful poet/ musician in this galaxy.

"Gold And Rose"
Jimi Hendrix

Gold and rose,
the color of the dream I had,
not too long ago.
Misty blue and lilac too,
waiting to grow old.

There you were,
under a tree of green,
sleeping so peacefully.
In your hand a flower played,
waiting there for me.

Well, I have never..., laid eyes on you.
Not before..., this timeless day.
Well, you awoke..., and you smiled my name.
And you stole..., my heart away.
Stole my heart away little girl!

Gold and rose,
the color of the dream I had,
not too long ago.
Misty blue and lilac too,
waiting to grow old.

Gold and rose,
the color of the dream I had.
Misty blue and lilac too.

Gold and rose,
the color of the dream I had.
Misty blue and lilac too.

Gold and rose.
Gold and rose.
Gold and rose.

I had this dream!
And I had to tell somebody about this dream!
The sky was filled..., with a thousand star's,
As the sun kissed the mountain's blue!
And eleven moon's..., played across a rainbow!
above me and you.
Gold and rose..., the color of the velvet walls that surround us.

Gold and rose!

Gold and rose!

May This Be Love
Jimi Hendrix

Waterfall!
Nothing can harm..., at all.
My worries so very small.
With my waterfall.

I can see,
my rainbow calling me.
through..., the mystery,
of my waterfall.

Some people say!
Day dreaming for the, huh,
lazy minded fools!
with nothin' else to do.
So let them laugh!
Laugh at me.
So long as I have you,
to see me through,
Ihave nothin' to lose.
Long as I have you.

(Lead)

Waterfall,
Don't ever change.., your ways.
stay with me for amillion days,
with my waterfall.

(lead to end)

[Now this, in line with his music..., is my soul's poetry.]

My favorite Jimi-

Little Wing

Well she’s walking through the clouds
With a circus mind that’s running round
Butterflies and zebras
And moonbeams and fairy tales
That’s all she ever thinks about
Riding with the wind.

When I’m sad, she comes to me
With a thousand smiles, she gives to me free
It’s alright she says it’s alright
Take anything you want from me, anything
Anything.

Fly on little wing,
Yeah yeah, yeah, little wing

G.p.

Life Gets Better

I used to think that it all stopped happening
by the time you reached twenty one
They said there's nothing like the first love you get boy
They were wrong, oh so wrong,
they hung on and hung on, to their dream, I know

CHORUS

Oooh Life gets better yeah
When ever I'm in her arms
Just to know I'm not the average fella
I'm the one, I'm the one for her

Well it's a shame what they do to these young kids
Just encourage them to act like clowns
And then they think that they don't have much longer
Knocked up the first time she let em get down
Put four walls around and then scream, but I know

REPEAT CHORUS

Life stretches before me an endless mystery
And nothing can bore me, when she's with me
I feel the heartbeat of the world in the hands of this girl
But it takes so much time to, to finally see, see, see

I get a thrill when I think how it really is
Noone can ever take that away
They try to put rubber bands around your heart
But they're wrong, oh so wrong, they hung on
and hung on, to their dream, but I know

Oooh Life gets better yeah
When ever I'm in her arms
Just to know I'm not the average fella
I'm the one, I'm the one for her

Oooh Life gets better yeah, When ever I'm in her arms
Just to know I'm not the average sucker, I'm the one, I'm the one for her

Oooh Life gets better yeah, Oooh Life gets better yeah
Oooh Life gets better yeah

Big Love- Little Village

Little Village
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I need love as big as an ocean
I need love that can't be crossed
A love in perpetual motion
I need a love that won't get lost

Do you know where this love can be found?
Do you know where this love can be found?
Open up your eyes; take a look around
Do you know where this love can be found?

'Cause I'm a full-grown man
And I'm lookin' for a big love

I need a love gonna move this mountain
I need a love that I can't hide away
I need a love gonna lift me up to that drinking fountain
Just like my Daddy did in my younger days

Now is this love gonna get up off the ground
Is this love gonna get up off the ground
I need a fifty-foot woman to wrap these arms around
Is this love gonna get up off the ground

'Cause I'm a full-grown man
And I'm looking for a big love

I never did just a little drinking
I could drink the Milky Way
Think small and your heart starts shrinking
I'm here to stay

Got to have your big love
I got to have it right away

I need love as big as an ocean
I need a love that can't be crossed
I need love in perpetual motion
I need a love that don't get lost

'Cause I'm a full-grown man
And I'm looking for a big love

French Cafe
Marc Broussard

Friendly people
But I can't make out all the words
Melodies so sweet through all the trees
From different birds
All around me
Sights and sounds and songs I've never heard
Swearing I'll be back again
One more week might do me in

And I stop to catch my breath
On the slippery steps of Angouleme
And with my little finger
Across the town I write your name

I can't stop drinking the wine
Can't stop counting the days
A world apart, an ocean away
Just loving you baby
Sittin' here, loving you
From this little French cafe

Oh, yeah
Turn the bed down, baby
Pray that jumbo plane's gonna bring me back
Got roses and bazaracs
Six Bordeauxs all in a sack
We may know some scrapes
But some things we won't ever lack
All the fields of Beaujolais
Couldn't buy you anyway
Couldn't buy you babe

Oh
And I stop to catch my breath
On the mighty steps of Angouleme
And with my little finger
Across the town I write your name

I can't stop drinking the wine
I can't stop counting the days
A world apart, an ocean away
Just loving you baby
Sittin' here, loving you
From this little French

All the oysters in Marennes
Whole French army and Charles de Gaulle
A million Francs wouldn't phase me at all
From loving you baby
Sittin' here loving you
From this little French cafe
Sittin' here loving you
From this little French cafe

"I Believe In You"

Now that you found yourself
losing your mind
Are you here again?
Finding that what you once
thought was real
Is gone, and changing?

Now that you made yourself
love me
Do you think
I can change it in a day?
How can I place you above me?
Am I lying to you when I say
That I believe in you
I believe in you.

Coming to you at night
I see my questions
I feel my doubts
Wishing that maybe
in a year or two
We could laugh
and let it all out

Now that you made
yourself love me
Do you think
I can change it in a day?
How can I place you above me?
Am I lying to you when I say
That I believe in you
I believe in you.

Die Moritat von Mackie Messer
Brecht/Weill

Und der Haifisch, der hat Zähne
Und die trägt er im Gesicht
Und Macheath, der hat ein Messer
Doch das Messer sieht man nicht

Ach, es sind des Haifischs Flossen
Rot, wenn dieser Blut vergießt!
Mackie Messer trägt 'nen Handschuh
Darauf man keine Untat liest

An 'nem schönen blauen Sonntag
Liegt ein toter Mann am Strand
Und ein Mensch geht um die Ecke
Den man Mackie Messer nennt

Und schmul Meier bleibt verschwunden
Und so mancher reiche Mann
Und sein Geld hat Mackie Messer
Dem man nichts beweisen kann

Jenny Towler ward gefunden
mit 'nem Messer in der Brust
Und am Kai geht Mackie Messer
Der von allem nichts gewußt

Und das große Feuer in Soho
Sieben Kinder und ein Greis
In der Menge Mackie Messer, den
Man nichts fragt und der nichts weiß

Und die minderjährige Witwe
Deren Namen jeder weiß
Wachte auf und war geschändet
Mackie, welches war dein Preis?
