Poetry and Lyrics

I Threw It All Away

Bob Dylan

I once held her in my arms,
She said she would always stay.
But i was cruel,
I treated her like a fool,
I threw it all away.

Once i had mountains in the palm of my hand,
And rivers that ran through ev'ry day.
I must have been mad,
I never knew what i had,
Until i threw it all away.

Love is all there is, it makes the world go 'round,
Love and only love, it can't be denied.
No matter what you think about it
You just won't be able to do without it.
Take a tip from one who's tried.

So if you find someone that gives you all of her love,
Take it to your heart, don't let it stray,
For one thing that's certain,
You will surely be a-hurtin',
If you throw it all away.

Fearless Heart

Don't you worry bout what you've been told
Cause honey I ain' even close to cold
It's kinda soon to fall in love again
But sometimes the best that you can do is just jump back in

I got me a fearless heart
Strong enough to get you through the scary part
It's been broken many times before
A fearless heart just comes back for more

Folks'll tell you that I'm just no good
But I wouldn't hurt you honey if I could
I can't promise this'll work out right
But it would kill me darlin if we didn't even try

I admit I fall in love a lot
But I nearly always give it my best shot
I know you must think I'm the reckless kind
But I want a lady with a fearless heart just like mine

Close Your Eyes

Well the sun is surely sinking down
But the moon is slowly rising
So this old world must still be spinning round
And I still love you

(chorus)
So close your eyes
You can close your eyes, its all right
I dont know no love songs
And I cant sing the blues anymore
But I can sing this song
And you can sing this song
When Im gone

It wont be long before another day
We gonna have a good time
And no ones gonna take that time away
You can stay as long as you like

~ James Taylor

(ps. just taking a little break. I'll be back soon. cheers, friends)

Comin' Around

Early this mornin’ I was washin’ my face
Thinkin’ ‘bout goin’ to town
Sick and tired of hangin’ around this place
Waitin’ on the blues to track me down
Bless my soul maybe I’m comin’ around
Been lyin’ low but maybe I’m comin’ around

I’ve been runnin’ nearly all of my life
Far and as fast as I can
It may sound funny but I’m thinkin’ this might
Be about right where I came in
Well I don’t know maybe I’m comin’ around
Got a ways to go but maybe I’m comin’ around
Finally layin’ my burden down

One fine day
I’ll be free
‘Til it comes
I’ll go on

My heart’s a little ragged but it’s all that I got
So I’m gonna give it a try
look out world I’m comin’ ready or not
I don’t wanna let you pass me by
Here I go maybe I’m comin’ around
I’m a little bit slow but maybe I’m comin’ around
Finally layin’ my burden down

Song: Hands On Man
Artist: Bates Jeff
Album: Good People

She said: "Sir, do you need the instruction manual?"
"Well, no, Ma'am: there's no job I can't handle."
Don't matter to me if it's high or low tech,
I'm either ways: all hands on deck.

I'm a hands on man: I like to touch it:
I'm a hands on man: I like to feel; love it.
Let my fingers linger on it just as long as I can,
You gonna love me: I'm a hands on man.

Now let's looka here an' see what we got:
Is it runnin' too cold or runnin' too hot?
Well, let me tinker with this a little an' fiddle with that:
I'll have this baby purrin' in nothin' flat.

I'm a hands on man: I like to touch it:
I'm a hands on man: I like to feel; love it.
Let my fingers linger on it just as long as I can,
You gonna love me: I'm a hands on man.

Well, if it needs adjustin', I'll adjust it just right.
Well, you can call me up, Ma'am: mornin' noon an' night.
If somethin' needs tightenin', or somethin' needs loosenin',
Well, I got all the tools an' I know how to use 'em:

I'm a hands on man: I like to touch it:
I'm a hands on man: I like to feel; love it.
Let my fingers linger on it just as long as I can,
You gonna love me: I'm a hands on man.

I'm a hands on man: I likes to touch it:
I'm a hands on man: I like to feel; love it.
Let my fingers linger on it just as long as I can,
You gonna love me: I'm a hands on man.

Aw, I like to touch it;
Hmm, mm, I love to feel it, love it.

Beautiful Child

Something that I said
Made you wear a frown
The way you hang your head
Has made the tears come down

But don't you wear a sigh
My beautiful child

You know it doesn't burn
When you touch the sun
So don't be concerned
My golden one
You're gonna reach the sky
Fly ...
beautiful child

There is no other place
The human race
Is running out of space
There is no better love
And human love
Is what it takes

And I'll be at your side
When you're falling down
You'll be feeling fine
When you hit the ground
So don't slip away
Stay ...
Beautiful child

A Sunday Kind Of Love

I want a Sunday kind of love
A love to last past Saturday night
I'd like to know it's more than love at first sight.
I want a Sunday kind of love

I want a love that's on the square
Can't seem to find somebody
Someone to care.
I'm on a lonely road that leads me nowhere
I need a Sunday kind of love.

I do my Sunday dreaming
And all my Sunday scheming
Ev'ry minute, ev'ry hour, ev'ry day.

I'm hoping to discover
A certain kind of lover
who will show me the way.

My arms need someone
Someone to enfold
To keep me warm when Mondays and Tuesdays grow cold
A love for all my life to have and to hold.
Oh I want a Sunday kind of love.

I don’t want a Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday, or Thursday, Friday or Saturday
Oh nothing but Sunday
I want a Sunday Sunday
I want a Sunday kind of love
Oh yea
Sunday, Sunday
Sunday kind of love.

How 'bout

a month of Sundays?

Tres, tres cute AV, Mademoiselle Bug.

NO EASY ACTION lyrics by Mark Lanegan

When all is done and turned to dust
And insects nest inside my bones, I see

I stagger in a daze outside my tent
No time for being alone, to bleed...

The hopeless singing of a round
That much we know to do
Before we go back underground
No easy action

Sparks fill the air some nights
Crows look for food behind my skin, beneath

Try our best to dig it in
And keep the cold away, I see

That the sky is a vanishing place
And then there's nothing to miss
No time to get out of the ice
No easy action

Although all else may turn to dust
And insects nest inside my bones, I see

I stagger in a daze to find what you meant
Where it's good to be alone--Bleed...

The hopeless singing of a round
Before that vanishing place
Before we're back underground
No easy action

"Expecting To Fly"

There you stood
on the edge of your feather,
Expecting to fly.
While I laughed,
I wondered whether
I could wave goodbye,
Knowin' that you'd gone.
By the summer it was healing,
We had said goodbye.
All the years
we'd spent with feeling
Ended with a cry,
Babe, ended with a cry,
Babe, ended with a cry.

I tried so hard to stand
As I stumbled
and fell to the ground.
So hard to laugh as I fumbled
And reached for the love I found,
Knowin' it was gone.
If I never lived without you,
Now you know I'd die.
If I never said I loved you,
Now you know I'd try,
Babe, now you know I'd try.
Babe, now you know I'd try,
Babe.

We Never Change by COLDPLAY from the album Parachutes

I want to live life, and never be cruel
I wanna live life, and be good to you

And I wanna fly
I'll never come down
And live my life
And have friends around

We never change do we no, no
We never learn do we
So i wanna live, in a wooden house
I wanna live life, and always be true
I wanna live life, and be good to you

And i wanna fly
But never come down
And live my life
And have friends around

We never change do we
We never learn do we
So i wanna live in a wooden house
And making more friends would be easy

Oh, and i don't have a soul to save
Yes and i sin every single day
We never change do we
We never learn do we

So i want to live in a wooden house
Where making more friends would be easy
I wanna live where the sun comes out

Hello
How are ya doin
and whadda ya doin here
is there something your afraid of
is there something I should hear
do you fear the things inside you
do you fear what you can't see
well sit right down beside me
and tell me everything
throw another log on the fire
and watch it burn away
life is like that log
but the heart is like the flame
he was a praire man
he walked alone
in his own way
he knew about the birds and the rattlesnake
on the ol' prairie
theres another bend in the road boys
theres another bend in the road
the sound of rain
surrounds and fades
on the plains

Lyric as Metaphor

Pink Cadillac
Bruce Springsteen

Well, now, you may think I'm foolish
For the foolish things I do
You may wonder how come I love you
When you get on my nerves like you do
Well, baby, you know you bug me
There ain't no secret 'bout that
But come on over here and hug me
Baby, I'll spill the facts
Well, honey, it ain't your money
'Cause, baby, I got plenty of that

I love you for your pink Cadillac
Crushed velvet seats
Riding in the back
Oozing down the street
Waving to the girls
Feeling out of sight
Spending all my money
On a Saturday night
Honey, I just wonder
What you do there in the back
Of your pink Cadillac
Pink Cadillac

Well, now, way back in the Bible
Temptations always come along
There's always somebody tempting
Somebody into doing something they know is wrong
Well, they tempt you, man, with silver
And they tempt you, sir, with gold
And they tempt you with the pleasure
That the flesh does surely hold
They say Eve tempted Adam with an apple
But, man, I ain't going for that

I know it was her pink Cadillac
Crushed velvet seats
Riding in the back
Oozing down the street
Waving to the girls
Feeling out of sight
Spending all my money
On a Saturday night
Honey, I just wonder
What it feels like in the back
Of your pink Cadillac
Pink Cadillac

Now, some folks say it's too big
And uses too much gas
Some folks say it's too old
And that it goes too fast
But my love is bigger than a Honda
Yeah, it's bigger than a Subaru
Hey, man, there's only one thing
And one car that will do
Anyway, we don't have to drive it
Honey, we can park it out in back

And have a party in your pink Cadillac
Crushed velvet seats
Riding in the back
Oozing down the street
Waving to the girls
Feeling out of sight
Spending all my money
On a Saturday night
Honey, I just wonder
What you do there in the back
Of your pink Cadillac
Pink Cadillac

High Places
(David Hidalgo/Louie Pérez)

The advantage of being in high places
Is that you never have to look up

The advantage of being in high places
Is that you never have to look up

And you feel like a big shot
It makes you feel like a big shot
It makes you feel like a big shot
Makes you feel like a real big shot

The advantage of being in high places
Is that people look so small

The advantage of being in high places
Is that people look so small

And you feel like a big shot
It makes you feel like a big shot
It makes you feel like a big shot
Makes you feel like a real big shot

The trouble with being in high places
Is when you fall it's a long way down

The trouble with being in high places
Is when you fall it's a long way down

The trouble with being in high places
The trouble with being in high places
The trouble with being in high places

The trouble with being in high places
Is when you're down nobody picks you up

The trouble with being in high places
Is when you're down nobody picks you up

Cause you acted like a big shot
So what happened to the big shot
So what happened to the big shot
You thought you were a real big shot

The trouble with being in high places
The trouble with being in high places
The trouble with being in high places
The trouble with being in high places

Pure Jazz Joy

Sweet Lorraine
Lester Young Trio (L. Young (tenor sax), N. King Cole (piano), B. Rich (drums)

I just found joy
I'm as happy as a baby boy
With another brand new choo-choo choy
When I met my sweet Lorraine.

A pair of eyes
That are brighter than the summer sky
When you see them, you'll realize
Why I love my sweet Lorraine.

Now when it's rainin',
I don't miss the sun
Because it's in my baby's smile,
And to think that I'm the lucky one
That will lead her down the aisle.

Each night I pray
That no one will steal her heart away
I can't wait until that lucky day
When I marry sweet Lorraine.

Run Away With You
Los Lobos

I would've run away with you
If I hadn't asked what I should do
Believe me what I say is true
I would've run, run away with you

I would've known it from the start
If I had listened to my heart
You'll never know but this is true
I would've run, run away with you
Run away with you

I was afraid at what they might say
When I could have turned the other way
You've got to know this love is true
And that I would've run, run away with you
Run away with you
Run away with you
Run away with you
Run away with you
Run away with you
Run away with you
Run away with you

Well, well, Ms. A. This sent me immediately to Amazon to find out what the hell album this was. Thanks for The Lester Young Trio (God, what a line up! Right up there with my all-time favorite Evans, LaFaro, Motian.)

Hmmm. Looking again, I see you've helpfully provided the link. You'd think, since I work with technology, that I'd be able to use it competently. Or, maybe not.

On to idle chit-chat. . . . that's a very fetching av, but it would be perfectly topped off with a blue Mariners cap.

After all, Papi started with us. Least you could do. ;)

Hey. Beat the effing Yankees.

Hey. Beat the effing Yankees.

Tzara,
I just purchased a cd I ran across- Dizzy Gillespie and Charlie Parker at New York City Town Hall- June 22, 1945.It was hidden away in some recently discovered reel-to-reel tapes at an Elk's Lodge. It also has Max Poach and Big Sid Catlett sharing drumming duties, Al Haig on piano, and Don Byas on tenor sax( on 1 track). Curley Russell rounds things out on bass.

Apparently this was recorede for a radio show, but for some reason never saw the light of day.....and is one of the earliset examples of them playing be-bop.

:)

And you think you're thanking me now...wait till you hear that cd!

And I understand you love the Mariners, but I'm a Red Sox girl. If anything, I'd be wearing a Phillies cap (old habits die hard), but ee would spank me. On second thought... :D
