Rant of the day šŸ’„

I had another rant that I debated posting this morning but then the doctor’s office called to schedule my physical and I was reminded of this...

Why do they have you do bloodwork on the same day of your physical? Why not a week prior so the doctor can discuss your results with you at the appointment? Isn’t that the whole fucking purpose?
The cynic in me says that it’s because they want to schedule you for another appointment if your results are abnormal so they get 2 visits out of it vs one.
So frustrating! Anyone in healthcare have perspective on this?
I usually have my blood work done a week before my appt, but last time NO ONE CALLED IT IN, so I didn't eat breakfast and took time off for nothing!! Dammit!!!!😔 then they had me come the next week to get it done... then didn't have the results for my appt...šŸ¤¦ā€ā™‚ļøšŸ˜”

My endocrinologist has me do it at least a week ahead but I always forget so I end up doing it after and she talks about it with me on the next visit. (I see her 3-4 times a year.) My GP just gets the blood results from her labs.
At least that works out!

That reminds me that I actually did get blood work done recently from a specialist. I wonder if they could just use that.

My minor rant of the day. I switched to ordering grooming products that came in glass containers a year or so back because I am (or was) in a socio economic strata that could. The last batch I ordered, same price, but in fucking plastic that looks like glass. Motherfuckers.

Not my words but I do echo the sentiment! Good reminder for those who don’t have people in their lives to offer them this perspective. Enjoy your holiday but do keep in mind that it’s not a universal nor secular holiday.

the rant my brain wants to go on right now might make me seem crazy...i agree everyone should be mindful and respectful of everyones beliefs and practices...the one thing we do know, is that jesus was not born on decemeber 25th and that christmas was actually appropriated from the pagan ritual of yule by early christians because it was convenient. i will end my rant for fear of alienating anyone. i think my main point here is to be open and respectful and especially humble. thank you for coming to my brief ted talk. i yield my time.

I have to do this in all caps because of how pissed I am. I just have to. Apologize in advance.

HOW THE FUCK CAN YOU BE TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL BY AMBULANCE FROM THE SCENE OF A CAR ACCIDENT, HAVE PRIVATE HEALTH INSURANCE FROM A MAJOR COMPANY, AND THEN FIND OUT MONTHS LATER THAT NEITHER THE AMBULANCE NOR THE EMERGENCY ROOM DOCTOR ARE IN NETWORK AND YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE FULL BILL??

If you are in a car accident and it’s your fault, pro tip: just don’t answer your insurance company when they call to ask you about the claim filed against you. They’ll deny it on your behalf because they only have the other person’s story.

And if you’re a doctors office, pro tip: if you’re out of network for a patient, just refuse to send the insurance company the correct codes and documentation and then you can just bill the patient the full amount.

If you love fucking people over for a living, pro tip: work for ANY insurance company.

I think a really important question is: why is it legal for insurers to deny coverage in situations where the insured can't possibly make an informed choice?

This is illegal under the Affordable Care Act. I'm so sorry you're dealing with this!

Insurance is just socialism fucked over by a profit motive.

My spouse has had tons of medical issues. Unfortunately, we had United Health Care the year of his second cancer. It was a fresh hell. It should be illegal to have a company that offers no actual product, and makes money off denying claims & keeping people sick. It's just cruel & wrong.

The only people who fight against socialized medicine are people who’ve never had to actually use the system or folks who profit greatly off the status quo.

Ooh, can I throw in: Medical offices and hospitals shouldn't be owned by for profit entities?

Re: United Healthcare - experience with this company not dissimilar

I had United thru my wife when I retired but went on Social Security at that time. I had Medicare and didn't even know it. I had surgery for prostate cancer and never recieved a bill or anything from United or the hospital because Medicare paid for it. Some years later I had throat cancer and had to have surgery. I had the best surgeon in the country (He developed the robotic proceedure for my surgery) and then went to Proton Beam therapy. I don't remember a bill. Turned out the hospital took what ever Medicare paid.

If you think that is bad look up how they are purchasing medical providers and attempting to buy home healthcare providers. The previous admin was trying to fight. Does not look to promising with current billionaires in charge.

Hah! Funny that it’s been almost a year since I last ranted here.

Today I’m here to rant about Super Bowl commercials. Going to go purely off of memory here. Don’t want to give any more money to them by watching the videos again. My memory might be off a bit but the anger is very real.

1. Mike Tyson talking about how disgusting and fat he once was because he was stuffing his face with ice cream. There’s just… so much wrong with this. ā€œBut MLAS, he’s allowed to talk shit about himself and that’s his lived experience so he’s allowed to share that.ā€ Let’s be fucking for real, it’s a Super Bowl commercial, not a group therapy session. They framed this ad as such to make people feel both individually bad about themselves and disgust/shame toward others… and probably to sell more weight loss drugs.

2. Alexa+… a commercial for AI where they show the AI coming after a person to make it seem so incredibly far fetched that that could ever happen. This did the opposite of hit its mark for me. I’m like… did y’all not watch Smart House? Even if it wouldn’t be a consciously homicidal AI, giving AI that type of control over those functions of your leaves space for all sorts of ā€œaccidents.ā€ Idk. I know I’m an AI hater but I really hate having this shit shoved down my throat in every aspect of life right now.

3. Hers.com… now this one, this one really fucking pissed me off. It starts off talking about how unfair it is that the rich have access to better healthcare than average people and how everyone deserves quality care. Rich people live longer and our healthcare system is broken. At this point I’m thinking.. yeah, but what are you trying to sell me because ain’t no way there’s a Super Bowl ad for class consciousness and solidarity. No, of course not, they’re selling you a website where they can mass peddle off brand ozempic to people loosely overseen by a virtual physician. And THIS is the solution to the health-wealth gap. Pay for this additional service and you’ll get healthcare like the rich do!

I know ads are predatory in general and they’ve always pissed me off, particularly medical ones. Maybe it’s because with streaming services I see fewer commercials in general and I completely tune out the ones I do see. But… FUCK 🤬

Have you ever seen a billionaire heavily invested in AI suddenly give himself media time to rant about how dumb we are for not wholeheartedly embracing AI replacing our jobs so billionaires don't have to pay workers, as well as making deepfakes and propaganda at will, so billionaires can easily tell us all what to think without employing middle men, and it's funny

It will be the only time I've ever seen them in the media, I have no idea who they are, and they're SO MAD we arent swallowing their dog turd AI project, they buy time in like Business Insider and Yahoo news to rant about how stupid we are for not liking their plan to destroy us for personal profit.

Keep crying about it, billionaires. It lets me know we're doing something very right.
