Red Magick

Rowena blushed, realizing her attempt at simple conversation had led to something said which made Wade feel far different from her, quite the opposite of what she had intended. She'd rather find their similarities than their differences. But, she was so rarely around people within her own age range and outside of her culture she sometimes forgot howuch things she took for granted were seen as oddities to them.

Quietly she shrugged and followed Wade from the wall outside the house to show him her work station inside.
" It's finished already. I packed it in several premeasured daily doses, in the envelopes there. I'll wrap a Moon's worth in some cloth, bundle it up, and we can be on our way." She announced proudly as she worked quickly, her nimble hands completing the task while she spoke.

He was eying the items on her table, powders, oils, vials written in family code, the open book of spells..."You may look at it if you're careful...I'll pack my travel rucksack so it will just be a couple of minutes...Don't let them know I let you see the book. It's been handed down and added to by women in our family for nearly six hundred years!"

She moved smoothly through the little house, gliding from one room to the next, humming as she gathered her things and packed them. The whole task was complete in less than a tenth of an hour. She found Wade where she'd left him, an unreadable emotion in his eyes as she smiled and said, "I'm ready when you are. Shall we tell my family goodbye?"

OOC: To push us along and hopefully help ease writer's block. But, it can always be removed if you prefer.

The farewell was not very long. The two older witches had seen it coming and were perfunctory about it all, knowing they'd see Rowena and Wade again within less than a moon.

They set out on foot, travelling well into the day, only stopping for a break once close to mid afternoon for a bite of bread and some fresh spring water before setting off again with some minor disagreement about which path would lead them to town the fastest. The argument grew rather heated and Rowena took off on her own path. This caused Wade to follow her, the gentleman in him wanting to look out for her safety, another part of him infuriated that in her stubbornness she'd basically gotten her way. An hour into it, when her chosen path had led to a point he recognized he had to admit she'd been right. Her shortcut had saved them at least two hours.

Rowena felt too guilty about having forced her point to be very smug about having been right. They walked beside each other for a long while in silence that drove her crazy. So, she began to sing a song about Beltane fires, dancing naked witches and sensual summer festivities resulting in many a "merrybegot"...The redness of Wade's face told Rowena he'd never heard this common witch song before and its concepts were shocking to him, things which to the youngest of her kind were just facts of life. "Are merrybegots so scandalous to your people?" She asked him, curious since she'd known her whole life, without shame, that she'd been conceived in just such a way, by the Beltane fires, her father, just a passing stranger celebrating life in the way the young and fertile often do on a night celebrating the union of Mother Goddess and Father God.
