I've always wondered why church/private schools make the girls wear those... not complaining...just curious.

At my school it was so everyone looked alike, uniform, and no one stood out. Poor kids were the same as middle class or even the girls who came from money. No one looked any more 'stylish' or 'better' than any one else. Once we got to school we would roll our skirt at the waist band to shorten the length and....oh my god.... show our knees. Scandalous !! Heaven help you if you forgot to unroll it before you got home and your mom or dad saw it. We really thought we were pushing the envelope. None of the male teachers ever sent us to the office at least.

I’ve worn the classic outfit at various fancy dress parties over the years, and it certainly got me lots of attention.
