Short Stories

ok

Some of us aspire to write more than short stroke pieces. We want to create characters that readers will remember. We want to write stories that have the ability to make the intended audience feel something other than lust.

You are welcome to your opinion, but you're not the type of reader I write for. If you feel there's a lack of a certain type of story, then by all means, feel free to jump in with your own offerings.

I have no problem with developing a charactor but just don't drag it out. There are more then one way to develop a charactor such as having their name in the title and it be a new short instead of another chapter in a drawn out wordy tale. I have read hundreds of action fiction stories by the same author and same base charactor and enjoyed them because I enjoyed the story and the charactors but the author knew when to end the tale and start fresh on a new book. They simply in the next give a brief of the charactor's background and go on, (while referencing past events).

To Each their own I guess.

Be Well!

Paco, can I refer you to 'The Lit Poster's Guide to Etiquette' that decrees that any reference to a story should carry a link.

Danc, for your edification and callipygian gratification, can I direct you to:

outsourcing

A quick read will show you that your judgement was impaired. Paco is no Anaïs Nin, just a good erotica writer.

On the subject, I think most of us round here agree that one of the biggest mistakes is having too much padding in a story. If your first draft was 40 pages, your published version will probably be twenty.

Length doesn't matter (titters behind fan). One of the most popular authors here is rgjohn who writes across the categories and never stops at 2 lit pages. He just writes very well.

I have read some of paco's work and enjoyed it. I didn't want nor need your reference to anal as you seem to be. I bet you waited ages to use this (callipygian gratification). Ny initial post was no more directed at Paco then anyone else in particular.

I made a generalized post which seems to have caused a few to be put off. Well If the shoe fits wear it, if not cinderella well you know the rest.

I'm afraid I probably have no talent as a writer but, that doesn't make my opinion less valid. I have read a couple things here written with probably less talent then me. They had their right to post as do I without a self-indulgent dare don't like it do better. I don't have to be better to have an opinion.

in the imortal words of Bartels and James "We thank you for your support."

e_o was only being cheeky when she used "callipygian." I actually deployed that odd word in my story, the one she kindly provided the link to. She was having a bit of fun, partly at my expense I think, though I know she means it in her usual good humor. :)rose: e_o) Point is, e_o did not "wait ages to use it." She's a bit more clever than that.

Your opinion, as best as I've been able to distill it from your original post, was that you wished that there were more short hot stories on Lit. Work that does not meet these criteria you readily describe as "wordy" and "self-indulgent." (You even dropped those words on me in two anony feedbacks. It's a sort of fingerprint for you I'm afraid.)

On my read, the end of DK's post that you responded to a bit testily was more of an invitation than a "self-indulgent dare." It's a common invitation extended by authors here, with the flavor of "If you really thing we're missing something, come on in." Many of us (myself included) were at least partly prompted to start writing our own stuff because we thought there was a space to fill here in Lit. If you think others feel the same way you do and if you're willing to put in the time, maybe you can contribute something meaningful and learn a little bit about yourself along the way. I learned I'm much kinkier than I realized.

You're certainly entitled to your opinion Danc, and to express it here for all to see. Looking back on this thread, I'd wager that you might have run into a bit less resistance if you'd articulated your preference as looking for "light smutty fun" that you can enjoy "in a few stolen moments." Life is hectic and folks can relate to that. Honestly, I wrote Outsourcing partly in response to a kind mother of two who said that she had trouble getting the uninterrupted hour or so she needed to "enjoy" my longer stories because she's got toddlers running amok. I did it as a thank you for her repeated feedback and for the challenge.

We have a Novella section. Why not a a Short Story one? I'd talk a bit more about that idea, but perhaps it's best to stop here 'lest I get too "wordy" or "self-indulgent." Perish the thought.
