Yes, their new album is something different. There's some artistic evolution that has gone on there but it's working for me! I love it when a band can do that!

The Coventry Carol - wonderfully poignant to anyone with a child especially. Carols don't have to be sentimental or trite.

Ne me Quitte Pas - Jacques Brel. The most pitiful, abject, begging song ever penned by a broken-hearted man. And he throws everything into his performance.

Where did you sleep last night? - Nirvana Unplugged. Raw emotion from a man shortly to commit suicide.

Les Cerisiers - Jean Ferrat. Played at my father's funeral: a life-long socialist who did not see the future he hoped for. The cherry trees are a symbol of the Paris Commune, and are a short-hand for the best kind of hope: that which is not retained for oneself, but passed on to the next generation.
 
A friend just found this for me the other day. For the Stevie Nicks fans, it's really a most beautiful song and such a delight to hear her sing. Her lyrics are always so touching.

I am glad you agree. It should be shown to every X-Factor wannabe, followed by the words, "Now that is how you perform. And if you can't match that, go home now and do something more useful with your time, like clearing out the shed or stamp-collecting."

(For my best friend who died unexpectedly nearly two years ago, come August. I miss him every day but as the song says, he's there in my soul / like an unfinished goal :rose: ).

Why not One Direction's version of Ave Maria, while we're at it. And I'd love to hear Beyonce's take on Mozart's Requiem.

I'm sure. As the suspected terrorists in Afghanistan underwent 'rendition' to Guantanamo. I know which experience I'd rather undergo, and it wouldn't be submitting to the egocentric vibrato of the Canadian Vegas showgirl.
