Space for Whatchamacallits

Buttered toast with Jarlsberg cheese and scalding hot sweet tea with lemon...

I am so looking forward to my trip to the family cabin this year. :)

Hi, Nice, there's more tea in the pot if you'd like some.

Sorry, Pretty, but I'm falling asleep on my feet here, lovely one. Catch up more soon, okay?

Oh, and tell Brit I haven't forgotten our Clinky Drinky challenge - I will post something soon, I promise!

Toddles over to blanket fort, crawls in, lets out a contented sigh and nods off

Hey there lovely.

What's up?

smiles, munching a biscuit she discovered during her investigations

Well, today's been an awesome day. Found out a colleague who has made my working life less than pleasant for the last year, has handed in her notice and after tomorrow I won't have to deal with her again!

sighs with relief

And now I'm just dithering about NaNo. I have two options for what to do and...

growls

...I'm being silly and indecisive! One idea isn't forming and will need to be pushed, which never works well, but that if it comes together I want to enter into a competition. The other is a massive project that I know I can made headway with (my challenge piece related to that one).

Well, I loved your challenge piece so I think you should work on it. I want to know more about those characters and their world!

grins shyly

Aww, thanks, lovely!

I think it does make sense to write, or rather re-write, the story that's more clearly formed in my mind as opposed to trying to force one that's just not coming together.
But...for some reason, I always second guess myself over stuff like this.

So, I think it'll be more about the Queen and her adventures for NaNo.

nods and winks

Not to be selfish, but that's excellent. I really liked it. Your challenges really help me to challenge myself to write (even if my writing sucks).

It's nice to get support and feedback.

It is, and you're welcome. Your writing is so good. Seriously it is. If I can claim to have helped everyone have more of that to read, in even the tiniest way, I'm extremely happy!

I was worried the sheer length of mine had put people off reading it altogether!

grins

I saw it yesterday, made myself a cup of tea on my break in work and settled down to read it. It was a delightful way to spend time.

RainingHeat did a fantastic entry too. Both of them. She was excellent.

Really looking forward to next month's challenge too.

Awww, yay!

beams happily

So glad you enjoyed it. And she is very very good. Was glad to see her taking part in it!

nod nods

Hoping next month's gets as good a response as this one has. And...

winks

...of course, very much looking forward to seeing what Essie comes up with.

Lifts blanket and peers out, smiling to see friendly faces in the Space.

Crawling out in warm flannel owl pyjamas, pouring large mug of tea and giving Pretty big warm cosy cuddle

Good morning, m'lovely, how's you?

Giving small curtsey to Jean

Ça va, monsieur?

Ms. Essie! A pleasure to renew our acquaintance, and a thousand apologies from my precipitate leave-taking yestreen. I was unavoidably called away by Dame Duty, and a harder task-mistress I have yet to meet.

I trust you are well? Allow me to brew a fresh pot of tea. What is your pleasure? Are you a sencha girl, or Russian Caravan type?

looking slightly puzzled

I'm sorry, what is Dame Duty? Do you work for a noble lady?

I am well, though, and I hope you are the same? A fresh pot of tea would be lovely, if you'll join me? I don't think I've ever had either of those, usually your standard English Breakfast Tea or peppermint for me, but I must admit that Russian Caravan sounds deliciously exotic so that would be wonderful.

Yousseff! A pot of Russian Caravan for two.

My factotum, you know. I'd call him a valet, but his shirt-pressing isn't quite up to scratch yet. And Dame Duty was a mere trifle of a metaphor - a personification, if you will and don't mind guinea words.

light dawning

Ahhh, as in Dame Duty, very close friend of Lady Luck? It may take me a little while to catch up with our trifles but they are enjoyable!

I'm afraid the chocolate cake somehow.... disappeared.... overnight, but I am a dab hand at making delicious hot buttered toast. Would you care for some while we have our tea?

Dame Duty fell out with Lady Luck, I am sorry to relate, over a lamentable misunderstanding at Goodwood last Season. She plumped her little all on a horse in the 4.30 to win, having been sure that she had been prompted to do so by Lady Luck - whose horse-sense is, naturally, infallible. However, the line had been bad, and Lady Luck had actually advised her to bet each way. The horse duly came in third, Dame Duty was obliged to take up seamstressing for a few months to pay off her rather over-eager bookmaker, and there the matter lies.

But I bore you with my whimsy. Tell me a little of yourself, if you would. What draws you to this delightful corner?

I'm afraid I'm allergic to horses so I am happy to leave the Lady and the Dame to their foibles in that particular area.

looking around

Do you think your friend Yousseff has got lost? Or perhaps he's gone to Russia to get the tea?! Never mind, at least we have toast to keep us company while we wait for his return.

slathering butter on a round of toast

I was drawn here by the kindness of a stranger, monsieur. I have found friendship, an extremely comfortable leather sofa and the cosiest blankets I have ever had the pleasure to be wrapped in, so I am glad I happened upon it.

What about yourself?

Madam, it has been so long I can scarcely remember. It has become a second home to me. And lo, here comes Yousseff at last, somewhat bedraggled. <Whispers with the boy for a minute.>

"All right, then, no need to cry. Yes, I know you thought all for the best. Never mind. You'll know next time."

I do apologize. The silly child ran all the way to Fortnum and Mason because he knows it's my favourite. I told him the stuff from the local supermarche will do next time. However, I am pleased that you shall taste decent tea, even if you have had to wait an unconscionably long time for it.

Looks horrified and goes to the boy

Are you all right, Yousseff? That was a very nice thing you did, thank you very much. Tell you what, you come with me.

Taking him by the hand, leading him over to blanket fort

While we have our tea, why don't you get cosy in there and have a little sleep? Go on, it's all right. You must be exhausted.

You'll spoil him, you know. He isn't used to the finer things in life.

"Yousseff! Try not to let your skin touch the lady's nice blankets, there's a good boy."

I'm sorry, madam, but it is still more than three months until his bath day.

Looking over, seeing the boy is fast asleep in the blankets

He's fine, honestly. I'll run them through the wash later if they get a bit grubby.

Shall we have some tea? I'd love to hear more about you.

Well, I am somewhat loath to talk about myself, as volume five of my autobiography makes clear. But ask away, dear lady, and let us sit at the charming tapestry table to drink our tea. The filigree chasing on the pot is rather fine, is it not?
