Space for Whatchamacallits

I don't know 'Serps - Curiosity may take you to bad places, but without it, we just stay where we are. I'm kind of hoping your head isn't in your hands over anything I said.

You know when you're really happy and you want to tell someone? I actually came here to indulge that impulse because there aren't that many places I hang around online any more, and I like this one because I'm a sucker for a love story that doesn't follow the conventional format.

Anyway, I just had a really good weekend and telling someone about it kind of keeps it alive for a while longer. A very good friend who I'd almost lost touch with came up to visit. I was so afraid it would go really awkwardly that I came very close to telling her not to come after all, but when we saw each other again it was like two drops of water touching. What can I say? We climbed. I got a full-strength fear fix with free complimentary side order of pain, but it turns out I can still lead. We went to the local climbing wall and she climbed rings around me. Since I taught her a lot of what she knows it was a bittersweet moment for me, but mostly sweet. Joni Mitchell sang that love is touching souls and when I watch her climb I can see that ours definitely touched.

So anyway. Now it's tuesday and I'm still in some pain, but it's good pain. My body still works, even if it likes to complain about it. Good friends take your infirmities into account, but it turns out that the very best ones don't :)

Reading about somebody else's happy times usually makes me smile - Kind of hoping this hits the same spot with somebody....

Aw, made me smile =)

Glad to hear that you rekindled a friendship, Bert. Nice to see you on here again (I've missed your climbing innuendos)!

Aww. Bert. I loved that. There's nothing as nice as reconnecting with someone, and seeing how a friendship has grown. And don't worry, my head is firmly screwed on top of my neck (my very sore neck, but hey, at least it's there!).

And what Starry said! I'm glad to see you back too, your climbing innuendos are pretty funny, not to mention you yourself are a pretty valued person around here, so don't be going away too much and forgetting about us!!

I promised myself I would write today. I will. I will!! Just once I've had something to eat and gone and picked up a huge big bunch of flowers for my parents (just to say thank you). Oh, and I signed up for the #100happydays thing on Facebook. I wanna see if it changes the way people think, plus I love talking happy talk anyway. You should do it with me, Starry!! We could be happy together!!

Well, I've missed being here and all of the lovely people who hang out here, but I do go into hermit mode from time to time, and over the years a lot of friendships have fallen by the wayside as a result. Also it has to be said I've used my arthritis as an excuse to get badly out of shape in the last year and a half, so as far as this lady goes, I was very afraid she'd be disappointed to see the state I'm currently in. I won't deny that I am in terrible shape physically, but as we found out on the crag, I can still do the business psychologically, even if I have to call myself bad names for ten minutes first :)

Also it's a wonderful moment when your student surpasses you. To be honest she has a way to go on real rock, but that's hardly her fault - she comes from a part of England that's pretty much France, and they don't have much climbing that doesn't have a roof over it.

We did manage some innuendo though, when I told her that her best bet was to abandon the crack and get on to the face ;)

Okay, I'm writing... At least I'm trying to but this pain in my ear/neck is just...

growls

I need suggestions for sort of dark, atmospheric music. I was listening to some Rammstein, then a little Lisa Gerrard, then Two Steps From Hell... I want something with purpose and intensity.

Help?

"Catch a falling Starfighter" by Bob Calvert?

I was actually considering it, Serps . . . mebbe I will!

I have an Immediate Music playlist somewhere, hmmm . . . maybe try some Midnight Syndicate, Nox Arcana, Sirenia, Loreena McKennitt, Tom Day, Lindsey Stirling, Sigur Ros, Jen Titus.

Game soundtracks always work! (Been listening to a lot of AC, The Last of Us, and Bioshock recently. Too many feels.)

Starry, last night Tech and I were playing xbox and we were chatting about Ezio and stuff, the timelines and everything, what happens to Desmond and Lucy etc. I was telling Tess about it.

He said to me "You should watch Assassin's Creed Embers". So I did.

Begins hyperventilating

Fuck, my friend told me about it one day. My reaction was just nooooo nO NOPE

I haven't seen it. I do kind of want to but . . . I just can't!

My God. Please tell me you had comfort sexytimes after. I would need it.

I cried so hard I fell asleep. I'm such a woman. I'm a disgrace to hard-asses everywhere. Have you got Brotherhood? You could totally join the team we're all rabbiting on about :)

S'okay. I'm the complete opposite of a hard-ass. My ass is as soft as a . . . velour baby's. =/

(And don't actually have it, unfortunately! Soz)

Gasps at the horror

Why, that most certainly is-is true

(Sowwi, I totally conked out for like two hours . . . just when I was attempting to continue AHS)

Tipton Thingymajig

If I write something, like an interaction with your character, and you aren't happy with it or want it edited, or want to expand on it, just let me know!

Also, I'm open to any kind of little history ideas, like old conversations or 'how we met' things.

I'm just putting it out there that I'm flexible and approachable.

And excited! Tipton kicks ass!

Awesome post, lovely!

And dame here. Well, granted Serena hasn't spoken much, to anyone, but if you want to visit her for sewing or conversation or the like, go for it.

grins

And yes. Tipton most certainly kicks ass. :D

Woop! Great stuff. I'm just nervous about writing when other characters are involved, like multiple characters. But I suppose we're all pretty capable of being malleable enough, and I'd never god-mod. I had to message Tess yesterday about stuff just to make sure I wasn't overstepping any bounds.

I loved Serena's interaction with Jake by the way. Super cute.

Awww, thanks!

beams happily

And we're all grown ups. In my limited experience with group threads the key is not to be overly precious about what you write. If you involve other people, expect them to react and roll with it, just like you would.

I think with the, frankly, fantastic cast there is...there won't be any problems. Plus...PMs work like a charm if you're not sure.

wink wink

Is it wrong to love a thread this much, I wonder.

Not when you're writing with people like this. Not only are there wonderful writers, but actual friends. I think that's a great positive about this thread, I have actual friends in it. Not to mention one participant in particular who I just love the socks off...

blushes

Likewise.

just grins for a few long moments

Plus, with friends these things tend to have a better shelf life than most group threads too. It's only going to get better, I can tell.

Aw man I missed the beginning of Bake-Off because I got so excited when I saw Tipton was updated - that gives you a hint as to how much I love it!

I agree - this is my first time actually writing with others, I would have felt quite daunted by it otherwise, especially with such a talented cast who have more experience . . . but I have nothing but love for you guys *_*

And likewise - Riley may be quiet but she wants friends! (Hmm can imagine her getting along with Serena well actually...)

I think my cupcakes are burning, shit.

Well, if she needs a costume adjusting or making or the like...

nods knowingly

...Serena is good with a needle and it'd be a way to start a conversation between them. Feel free to PM me if you want to bash an idea or two around and we'll see what we can come up with.

But noooooo, for potentially burnt cakes!

Cracks open door and peers in, not seeing anyone about but smelling the faint sweet aroma of burnt cake.

Closes door quietly and from backpack, pulls out and lights a couple of scented candles (vanilla and lavender) in glass lanterns, goes to her beloved couch and snuggles down under a knitted throw, hoping to find some rest and peace.

Tiptoes in, placing a fresh-from-the-oven cinnamon roll pound cake on the table for any other passers-by, before stealing half of it back for herself. Vanishes just as quickly.
