stories told in English where most of the dialogue actually happens in another language?

A question. A liar may deceive you better if she is a Juggler of your language, right?
So lawyers, journalists and (God forbid) novelists are the worst?
A woman will deceive less, if she doesn't know enough words? (Edit: never happened, language is feminine)
Or will she still lie keeping her mouth shut?
Or, will a lover be more sincere if he knows only a few words?

In my story it's a 19th century British army officer and a maid from a Ruritanian country somewhere near the Adriatic, who find some common ground in Italian.
 
It's so fun to be overseas, and finding a lingo that works with someone; I can do a lil German, Espanol, and Anglais.
