For an e-book, yes (more like 45,000, though). For print, a short novel would start at about 60,000 words. There was a time when print publishers considered nothing less than that as cost effective to print (unless the author was already a celebrity). When Steve Martin's Shopgirl novella made it into print in 2001, that was considered a real breakthrough in print. But, of course, it was written by a celebrity.I think 40k is the industry standard absolute minimum for something to be considered a novel. Since the Lit category also includes novellas, you're absolutely fine, I assume.
