Strong opinions about nothing important

1) I wish I had Eb's way with words. :)

2) Depending on what mood I'm in I will use each of the three words. When I'm speaking formal, it's usually submissive or slave. When I'm in a hurry, I'll shorten it. And when I'm being a brat (gasp!) I'll refer to myself as a subbie.

Thanks Wyn.

Well, we have said, that barring instructions from Dom/mes who have subs who post with their permission, we are all equals here and have the right to use any name or title we choose.

I do not think that is too much to ask.

All of my subs have permission to post here, but they choose not to. They even say they do not want to read what I post here. They have that choice.

I often see submissives referring to themselves as "subs" and sometimes even "subbies" and I can't stand it. I don't know why but it's kind of like someone running his or her fingernails down a chalkboard.

people referring to themselves as 'subbies' bothers me too but... I deal~~ makes me laugh when I think about it ...it's a little something I think about at times too~~ why?

Why does use of the term "subbie" bother you?

Me, personally, because it's childish sounding. Two things I've found assumed about submissives probably from online culture:

everyone who submits wants to be childish and giggly and diminuitive
everyone who submits wants to be slutty and oversexed and exposed

A lot of people are into those things, but not everybody. I have submitted, but I have never, ever ever been a "subbie" and when people who didn't know me referred to me that way it would jerk my chain. I'm a grown woman.

lol look at the thread title, "Strong opinions about nothing important"... hence, no big deal. A place of rant for those who wish to read and/or respond... or simply come in to

I really do not know the why, that is why it makes me laugh a bit.... it's not really a strong opinion either... I just wanted to share in her thread. When someone refers to me as 'subbie' I cringe.. or when they refer to themselves I do the same but I don't freak or anything, and it does make me curious as to why but not enough to go deep into my psyche to figure it out~~~ it's not that big of a deal to me.

I'm a mom also but I do not refer to myself as 'mommie' ~~ I guess it's sort of the same thing... I'm a woman. I'm submissive. more so than that, I'm love .... regardless of what body my spirit is in~~~ ..

ok, so sometimes my thoughts get a little carried away... : )
love to you all~

lol yes, Ebony, it's as sure as the sun rising tomorrow morning - and that's truly 'a good thing'! The "deposits" of "two cents" make the board "rich", and keep a thread "accruing interest". I was just caught in a momentary lapse of irony, happens all the time. Pardon. :D

That sounds like a personal perception. i am a submissive and find the use of the term inconsequential to what kind of submissive i am. Labels *shrugs* Must be a "jaqueline" not "jackie" thing.

As far as the "online" perception, i know many submissive's who are far from childish and giggly, diminutive, slutty, oversexed or exposed. That was a generalized comment. Then again, i do not see what the issue is to begin with.

I find this topic very interesting. I am new here and have gone through most of the postings. I use the term "sub" because of the laziness of typing. I do not and will not call myself "subbie" , I agree in that it does sound a bit cutsie and that is one thing I am not. My "dom" is however my love. I refer to him as "he" or my "love" as we feel this is not only for now but a way of life for us. I have never posted in forums before and I am finding that everyone has there own way of expressing themselves. This helps me in allowing myself to open and express my views. I am extremely impressed with this forum and hope to find more interesting topics such as this.

Perpetuating the Myth

Labels, labels, labels.

So submissives are now either serious, dedicated, i am woman, hear me roar vs. the one's who call themselves subbie so they MUST be fluffy, little girls who twitter and are cutsie?

Unreal. i know quite a few submissive women and most don't care about the term either way. Abbreviations are what they are. Nothing is attached to the terminology other than personal issues with how one wants to be seen. i've called myself a subbie/submissive/sub and it doesn't make me anything other than what i am ... submissive. The fluff comes with personality behind the word ... not the word itself.

ok, i gotta speak out against the cute = fluffy bimbo issue here. now i'm not trying to broach an attack, or offend anyone, but i have to speak my piece. and the reason for this is that there ARE so many cute fluffy bimbos out there. i, however, am cute as a button but take no shit. i'm pursuing a college degree and am capable of holding discussions about my favorite authors. i'm an aritst and a music enthusiast (that means i don't play anything, i just adore music! :p) i'm five feet tall, 110 pounds, precious as a snuggly bug in a rug, and often cute in my demeanor. however, i have also had umpteen years of various martial arts training (mostly brazilian ju-jujitsu, all my royce gracie fans gimme a hey!) and i am currently sweaty from my nightly boxing work-out with bas rutten (all my bas fans gimme a hey!) which involves going several three minute rounds. so i just don't want people to assume that all us subbie bunnies are vehemently vacant and a ditzy force to be reckoned with. cute does not preclude depth.

*bows gracefully* k, i'm done now.

In other words, "You say Tomato, I say submissive"? :D

And what's wrong with being giggly, sluttish, and oversexed?????

Like another r/l friend of mine who goes by Bunny, you're not a soft fluffy retreating creature
Makes one wonder why you chose a name that makes you SOUND that way :D

BTW........at 5'10" and 215, I'd be willing to go a round or 3 with you, all grappling, no striking
I'll put my 27-odd years of Aikido, Akijitsu, Judo, Ju-jitsu, Shito-Ryu, Jeet Kune Do, and Brazilian Ju-Jitsu up against you.....we can see if that old "size doesn't matter in Martial Arts" bit is true :D

there is an aspect of my nature that is soft and fluffy, the part that wears schoolgirl uniforms, pouts at the threat of a spanking, and eats ice cream with abandon. mmm.....ice cream.....

ooh! aikido! "the way of blending energies". also (rather incorrectly) called the way of love because the word "ai" means both together and love. i do, however, LOVE aikido because it allows little people like me to put big burly men like you into the air! there's a dojo about an hour from my house, and it's run by kevin sparkman who trained under (oh hell i forget his name, he's written many books on the subject, oh jeez i look like an ass now) who lived with O Sensei for the whole of his life.

but i'm rambling. my point is this: come within ten feet of me and i'll have you in the backmount to a rear naked choke before you could even tap once! :p

all i have to say is..

"Do what you feel in your heart to be right - for you'll be criticized anyway. You'll be damned if you do, and damned if you don't."

Eleanor Roosevelt

i am a woman, and i have been called everything from female to raging bitch and everything in between. i am submissive and have been called everything from a doormat to a strong caring submissive and everything in between, including sub, subbie and the occasional "sammie".

If the way we are measured as a submissive is the choice of our vocabularies and how we refer to ourselves, then the Dom/me's should be jumping for joy at how many perfect submissives there are walking the planet earth.

i am a human, a woman and a submissive. Label it want you want, call me what you will.. just don't be condescending about it.

"No one can make you feel inferior without your consent."

Eleanor Roosevelt, 'This Is My Story,' 1937
