She watched in surprise as he revealed a secret cache of guns behind his bookshelf. Had he installed that when he had been doing renovations in his room? How long had he had those guns, and had they been left there when he had been away? All of it was a bit unexpected, and she wondered if there were more things about him she didn't know.
"Um... mom only took me out shooting a couple times, and the pistol was a revolver, I think. Not sure what caliber it was, though." She glanced at him and saw that he looked a bit pained and frustrated. Piper felt a bit guilty that she hadn't said anything, but she really did think that some of it had been her imagination. It would have been awful if it turned out to be nothing and she had yanked him away from his life in the big city.
"I'm sorry, Joe." Piper looked down at her feet, sighing. She heard the jingle of the ammo he had retrieved from the drawer and nodded when he mentioned firearm safety.
Piper shook her head. "I really don't have any idea. My ex's were a bit angry when I broke up with them, but none had that crazy stalker vibe. I'm not sure I know anyone like that. I definitely know it's a guy, though." The sound of his footsteps were heard before she saw his feet in front of her and felt his arms go around her. She was pulled into a tight hug, comforting and tight. His words were so strong and protective, she couldn't help but feel so much safer. Even without the firearms, she felt like no harm would come to her as long as her brother was watching over.
"Thanks Joe." Piper smiled back at him as he let go. "I love you; you make me feel safe." She kissed him on the cheek much like she had seen their mom do to their dad. He then gathered his sheets and asked her to grab hers. Piper heard his stomach and realized that she was actually quite hungry too.
Going into her own room, she started to deconstruct the bed, getting all of her pillow covers and sheets off to be put into a pile. She gathered it all up in her arms and returned to his room, dumping it into the pile. He had left the phone in his room, so she saw it buzz when they got the text. Picking it up, she opened her phone and read the message.
"This is Piper. Joe and I are sharing a phone for a bit until we can get a new one for him. His is pretty fucked up now. Anyway, that was fast, I guess it wasn't a long-term thing to begin with, though. Maybe we could go out to eat? Or if you pick up stuff, we could either eat it at our place or I could cook something. Lemme go ask Joe." Piper hit send and took the phone, going to track down Joe to let him know what Tammy had said.
