Her order was delivered to her and she ate slowly and silently. Everything was prepared well, but it was all tasteless and bland to her. Piper sighed and poured a bunch of cream and a couple packets of sugar into her coffee-she liked it sweet. He used to always tease her by saying something like, "Hey Piper, do you want some coffee with your cream?" She almost smiled at the memory.
Why had he chosen yesterday to spring something like that on her? She had thought of him as a brother all this time and he had confessed and expected her to reciprocate. Piper knew she loved him, but she wasn't sure if it extended to romantic love yet. It was as though a long-time friend had confessed randomly, thinking he was the guy for her. They all thought they were better than the others, but Joe might actually be if he weren't her brother. Or maybe it was because he was her brother that he was better than most guys. It still didn't account for the fact that he expected his little sister to fall in love with him within the course of a day.
And yet she couldn't help but feel responsible. Piper wondered if she had led him on or dressed too scantily around the house. She never thought she would have to worry about what she wore at home, but perhaps she ought to start wearing pants.
She checked her phone and saw no calls. There was a text from Jeff, though, that read:
"Hey Piper! Don't forget about the second round of Dnd tonight! I'm covering food tonight, so hope you'll be hungry. " Piper wouldn't have picked up if Joe had called. When she was upset, she preferred to text.
Piper didn't reply, she just shook her head. The game tonight... should she even go? It might be awkward if they both showed up, but she figured it would be unfair to mess up the game because of their own private issues.
