So.... it was stupid.....

At the end of the season I didn't replace the super dirty filter. So when I turned up the heat it wasn't getting any air and turned 9n some high pressure alarm which prevented it from firing.....so he came out I had filters he replaced cleaned and cycled twice.....

All for the grand Sunday service call fee of 90$

He is a great guy....

Good!!! Excellent!!! Worth every nickel. So I trust he showed you how to change the filter. Don't use the HEPA filters - they make the fans work too hard. Use a decent filter and change it at least every 90 days - 30-45 is better, especially during a/c season. Don't use the uber-cheap filters. Mid-grade is more than good enough.


Wat burns some bad-ass incense . . . .

I bought the ace hardware decent ones.... looked just like the filtrete at half the cost.... I am ashamed to say I never thought of changing the filter during the summer..... I told you it is a boy job.... I feel sort of stupid though.... I know better....

I know how to hange i just messed up.... ugh.

That is some fancy incense you have there ..... 90$ was a blessing. He is someone my parents use. He has customers that are older who have been told that they have to buy new ACs and this that and the other and he is like nope I'm not going to make these 80 year old ladies buy new air conditioners when I can get them limped along with r 22 that I have stockpiled and take care of them because they won't be living in their homes long enough to explain away the spend. He doesn't try to screw people over or make them buy things that they don't need. He is a blessing

some thermostats will tell you when to replace the filter based on total runtime. If you don't have that, set an outlook reminder once a quarter.

Well I’m glad it was nothing serious.

Change them filters out!! When we had forced hot air I swapped out the filters right around Christmas and then again at the end of the season.
 
The dreaded hedge haircut recommenced today. My wife and I always argue over how to do this and I’m a stubborn guy so I refused to take her advice. And I was cantankerous about the whole project anyway.

This hedge trimmer is not terribly heavy but it’s completely unbalanced. It’s one of my least favorite jobs.

The hedge is like 15 feet wide and I use a large hedge trimmer to get as much as I can for the ground. Then we back the pickup and I put an extension (heh heh I said I use an extension) on the trimmer to get another 3 ft on it and give the middle a haircut. But my wife and I argued over the best way to do this.

But she had a best idea: take a piece of plywood and use it as a step on top of the hedge to get even further in (heh heh). It worked like a charm. I was basically using the plywood like a small surfboard.

And your lesson only cost $95. That's cheap in 2024. I presume you have a wall calendar. Mark the calendar with a filter to-do list. That's how I pay my bills. It works. Makes a system that works.


Mom changes her own filters. She'll be 92 on the 23rd.
