The AH Coffee Shop and Reading Room 09

Warnings: May contain NUTS, ALMONDS, HAZELNUTS and WHEAT
I think that this sort of warning is thrown out on a 'shotgun' basis. In one sense, it's good to warn people, but IRL, cross-contamination is always theoretically possible, so companies are putting such warnings on everything they sell, which means that somebody with serious allergies has entire aisles in the supermarket red-flagged for no real reason.

I remember being a child at my grandfather's cottage. The local drug store sold slab chocolate, by which I mean a one big slab maybe 18" x 24", sitting out in the open on a tray. One took a knife they kept there, carved off a chunk and they weighed it on the spot. They'd be padlocked now for half-a-dozen reasons, but I haven't tasted such good chocolate in decades. Sigh - nostalgia just ain't what it used to be!

Keep talking about chocolate -- mmmmmm. It was foggy earlier but now it's just a gray cloudy morning. More rain expected but it'll be in the sixties today. After whinging about my BP yesterday morning, my BP suddenly moderated and I had three consecutive readings in the normal range (one at 107/74) so I'm starting the Meloxicam again. The new medicine must have finally kicked in.

There's a fresh pot of coffee brewing and the teapot is boiling. Help yourself to the snacks on the counter. I spied some Hostess cupcakes among the offerings today. How many of you remember being able to buy the two-pack for a dime? Now it's a $1.75 for the same.

I'll be over in the corner working on my story. Switching from 1P to 3P is turning out to be more work than I thought it would be. Now if I can only keep the plot bunnies away from my ankles ....

One phone conversation has been blocking my progress on The Girl in the Photograph. I got through it this morning, and that moves me forward through already-written parts of the story to a monologue the ghost delivers to explain herself. I have to break that up with some give-and-take.

It feels good. I've always worried that the story might be too slow, but reading through it again reminds me that it actually moves very quickly.

I should finish with the heavy work on the 8-foot raised garden bed this afternoon. I need to get on with some other spring gardening chores, like pruning the roses.

Power outage in the middle of the morning? Asplundh is out there trimming back the forests, something that has to be done every other year or so. They probably dropped a tree branch across a power line. Knocked out power from Waycross GA to Callahan FL and guess who was 1000 words into a April Fools story and didn't turn on Auto Save.

And you're powerless to do anything about it.

Bah dump dump tshshsh.

I broke down and turned on the AC.🫤 I just can't sleep in 80+ temps. Function in it sure, but not sleep. I'm going to try and get some writing done while it cools off in here.
