The cost of things

what always startles me are the prices of paperback books - I pay more for a used paperback than I used to pay for a new one = \

I'm equally stunned by the prices of business books. I pulled a book from my shelf this morning to loan to a friend and while it's a very useful book, at $35 for fewer than 200 pages it was stunningly overpriced.

Denver here...

Average gas - $3.09 per gallon...my car is flex fuel, so it can use E85 which is about $2.35 per gallon here

Eggs, I buy an 18-pack about every 2 weeks - roughly $2.19

Milk, I buy most of our dairy products from the local dairy delivery - $4 per gallon - but with 2 toddlers (mine & the boy I watch), it saves me from running to the store 2x a week for milk!

Got a family reunion about 4 hrs away next weekend...NOT looking forward to the gas prices b/c I'm driving right through the "ski area" zone of CO (Vail, Beaver Creek, etc) and prices will be at LEAST $0.50 cents higher or more... *sigh* We don't do many "extracurricular" trips and if I have errands, we make everything on one day so most of the time, I don't go anywhere during the week.

Here in farm country, Gas is $2.69 for unleaded ethenol, But with the new ethenol plants going up corn land is selling for $4200 a acre and the assesor is starting to raise valuations to around $40 acre for taxes. But the politicians are saying "we have not raised taxes, just your valuations. I would like to know where all you folks were a few years ago I sold pigs over 10 years ago for under $50 a head for butcher pigs. That was a deal for the consumer. My dairy neighbors are getting around $20 a CWT plus premiums. That means they sell 100 pounds of milk for $20.00 ,,,a gallon is about 8 lbs but look at how much you get out of it when it is processed to skim or low fat. I did not sell enough grain in a high market so I cleaned my bins this week and barely got $3.15 a bu for #2 yellow corn delivered to river terminal. Still was nice compared to a couple years ago when it was only 1.65...... Oh I forgot my local John Deere dealer charged me $75 a hour for shop labor

ok, im gonna rabit on for a little bit heer, cos you americans really do get it lucky compared to us brits.

1. fuel heer costs 95.9 pence per litre ( thats $7.70 a gallon)

2. Milk cosst an average of £1.10 a litre (roughtly $2 a litre)

3 bread is almost the exact same price for milk

4. Playstation 3 costs a whoppin £420 (almost $900 for a games console?)

I'm really sick of the way we are bein ripped off by global companies, especially the games market. We get such a rough deal from them an they just say 'tough.

My mum really wants to go back to live there, and i can see why, considerin the fact she loves the prices and she is american. Considerin it myself the way prices are here

Yeah, I do a lot of shopping at the 99 cent only store.
Can't afford the regular places.

Gas today in HB, Ca. $2.69/gal. This is a real deal. It's more in high class neighborhoods. Just 2 months ago, it was 3.35!
Rent was just raised to $1290/mo. and this is a DEAL for a 2 bdrm apt.
Coffee - $4 to $5 a pound, or $9 for the 35 ounce Folgers, the cheapest brand around. This bothers me. I've been drinking coffee since I was a child.
I have to use the 1/2 caff type, which is harder to find a deal on.
I hope the coffee gods do something about this one soon.

(Get ready Cathleen. The Angels are going to whip the Red Sox's butts)
:D

That's a big drop on gas for you guys, MF. Ours is down to $2.73, south of Boston -- hoping it'll keep going down.

I was at the grocery store today -- eggs were $2.19/doz. Milk is $4 to $4.50 and reports are it'll be $5.00 soon. So much for strong bones and 'Got Milk'.

Good to see you MF, the Angles are welcome here but as for winning -- nope.;)
