Another Crossroad Blues

Comin’ to the Crossroads,
It’s time to take it slow.
Comin’ to the Crossroads,
Wonderin’ which way to go.
The crazy live I’m liven’
Is gonna lay me low.

That dark sedan is passin’
It pays no mind to me.
That dark sedan is passin’
Windows too dark to see.
The times have got me worried
That the man will bury me.

The dust ahead is risin’
The wind blows hot as Hell.
The dust ahead is risin’
I wonder what I smell.
He’s just around the corner
And I hear them ringin’ that bell.

I hear my Mama cryin’
Behind the bedroom door.
I hear my Mama cryin’.
Mama don’t cry no more.
That likker’s got me talkin’.
Even though I said no more.

The evenin’ Sun’s a settin’,
The day is almost through.
The evenin’ Sun’s a settin’
And I’m not there with you.
I meant ta keep you laughin’,
But darlin’ now you’re blue.

Likker Lovin' Michael Moonshine

Bump.

Ange, you can't quote it without reviving it....

I expect a new poem from you....pronto...

Would you mind if I just said "Hank"?

hank can sure play that guitar
nice and slow
sweet and low
let them fingers dance
along them strings
let that foot get ta thumpin’
with that bluesy beat

don’t know why that hank
seems to think
he’s gotta sing them blues
it don’t matter what else
he’s got ta lose
he’s gotta fine woman.
justa wantin’ ta hold his hand
he’s gotta sweet woman
justa waitin’ ta hold his hand

but if old hank
wants ta play them blues
I’ll listen for a spell
yes, if old hank
wants ta sing them blues
I’ll sing along with ‘em

but I ain’t sure
I can match that smile
I ain’t gonna try.
but I’m gonna listen.

My baby's 'cross the mountains so far away from here
I want his loving arms around me and to see his smile so dear
but my baby's 'cross the mountains oh so far from here
I gotta sing the blues out loud and oh so clear
so my baby hears my wailin and comes and holds me near
but my baby's 'cross the mountains so far away from here

Scrambled Blues

My baby told me he likes jelly on his toast.
My baby takes a little jelly with his toast.
So I’m gonna cook him up his breakfast,
give him what he loves the most.

If he wants it over easy, I can flip it nice and slow.
If he wants his eggs done easy, I’ll flip careful slow.
But if my baby needs a scramble,
I’ll stir it up and let it go.

I’ll keep his coffee steamin,
poured and light just right,
and sweetened for my sugar,
so the taste is outtasite.

My baby done told me spread some jelly on his toast.
Send him with a smile; spread some jelly on his toast.
Serve it satisfying.
Give him what he wants the most.

Blues in the Closet

Good morning America,
and the greater world at large.
It's 10:16, 49 brrry degrees
and here I am
in swingsongy ease
all alone in the house,
but so pleased

cause Mista Bud Powell
plays lively blues rocked
out his closet,
and he's jivin for me.

Bud's a jazzy old loon
dancin 88 chord-crashy
spates of fours,
laughin all the way

and if that don't tickle
the start of a tart-crisp day,
then you ain't livin baby.
That's all Mista Bud
and Miz Ange can say.

Kama Sutra In Twelve Bar by "All Man" Allman

My baby don't like no classic rock
when she twist my dial
and our boots do knock,

My baby don't like no classic rock
she step up to my mike
and baby don't give a fawk.

She don't care for the Eagles
or no Steely fucking Dan

She go "Buddy is my Guy"

tongues my pop top
and kicks my can.

Baby don't like no classic rock
She too busy
with my seven inch..
EP,

My baby is Queen of the Block
I loves her eterna fucking lee!

Baby likes her riffs slow
and right nasty,

so with me she just can't lose

cause I've always been
a fool for that cooze

and me and my baby

we just love
the blues.

Oh I ain't singin' no muddy water blues

Cause I got Perrier water ta choose,
And I ain't wearin' them blue suede shoes.

Oh I ain't cryin' no beat up truck blues
No I ain't cryin' those beat up truck blues
Cause I got an Explorer that's in the news
And I ain't payin' hard time dues

Oh I ain't broke,
Cause my Trust Fund just matured.
Yeah it's no joke,
I'm Canadian, haven't you heard?
Gallery happenings on opening night
Champagne and caviar treatin' me right
Right there with the well-to-dos
Wearin' designer Gap-trendy-wanker denim blues.

There ain't no way I can find the blues.
No there ain't no way I can find the blues.
There be looks in the family tree,
And my luck is damned good, don't ya see?
And my baby's so fuckin' sexy,
He be lovin'
Nobody else.......
but
Me!

Oh I ain't singin' no Angeline Blues
No I ain't singin' no Angeline Blues
Cause I got lovin friends in alla you's
And I ain't singin'
No I ain't cryin'
I ain't singin' no Angeline..........
Blues.

Baby sing the blues all night
twang it gutteral and low
baby sing the blues all right
move our changes deep and slow

I got blues big as the sky
all the world is falling hard
I don't even ask god why
he keeps dealing the low card

Wake up, make some coffee, work
sleepwalk through another day
somewhere between nod and perk
there should be another way

Next to you my heart is free
and all his machinations moot
he takes it all and then blames me
but I won't eat that bitter fruit

Just sing our blues and let me lay
close to where I'm safe and warm
You are where I choose to stay
my port from his angry storm

Yes it's posted

But it belongs here too...

Angeline,
have you seen
what life’s got
out there
for you.
Beware that jazz.
Beware those lonesome blues.
That trumpet cries,
That sax wails,
That drum beats out
the rhythm of your heart.
Your heart needs no other beat.
Those minor keys
will lock up up
Deep within their sorrow.
That slow call
for alcohol
will drive you to the brink.
That moody song
will steer you wrong
and leave you feeling sad.
So let it go,
all sad and slow
and chase those blues away.

John Lee Hooker, Muddy Waters, Bessie Smith,

ah yes--the better known ones

the ones better known than Ma Rainey, Memphis Minnie, Chippie Hill, Cripple Clarence Lofton, Blind Boy Fuller et al

Not a blues per se, but I think it goes in here anyway. At least it says "blues" on some lines. :)

Sang

noone knew
that at 3 am
between sleeping walls
to the whirr
of a content feline
patient purr
in her lap

she sang the blues

soft
silent
sitting serene
by the kitchen table

more a matter of fact
statement
than growling howling
pain posers
barking howling self hate
across the ether

she sang
just that
no more

a blues
in niether rhythm nor words
but in every fraction of her
hallowed hollow heart

to paint stars
on the belly of a cloudy sky
to paint sunshine
on the inside of closed lids
to the lines in her face
to replant, to replace

she sang
that bluest blues
to put fall to sleep
burn winter clear
and somehow, some day
ignite a spring

so tell me now,
why do you sing?
