SW made it through the night. They're giving him oxygen because he keeps making choking sounds. He doesn't seem to be in any pain. No one is sure how much longer he'll make it like this, but the doctor talked to YK about afterward. Evidently the VA hospital will, if the family is okay with it, announce his passing, and they'll drape his body with a flag and the whole building will have a moment of silence while the police and as many of his nurses can be spared will walk him to the hearse. It's pretty awesome.

Indeed, it is. A year or so ago I attended the funeral of a friend who, like Sir W, had served in his youth. It concluded with a military ceremony that was immensely moving and a long-enduring remembrance of his sacrifice and courage.

YK... my heart truly goes out to you and SW... just under three years ago, cancer took my husband of 25 years. I know that terrible feeling of waiting...and watching...

Ok, evidently they're not giving him oxygen, they're giving him oxycodone. That said, he's still here. Ironically enough, considering his many heart attacks, it's his heart that just won't quit. lol YK is spending the night on a cot in his room tonight so she can be there if he goes.
