The Isolated Politics Blurt Thread I: A New Beginning

Republican congressman un-retires a day after announcing his retirement

On Monday, Fallon, a lawmaker elected in 2020 to a North Texas seat...filed to run for Texas State Senate District 30, the seat he had held before being elected to Congress. "At the end of the day, the decision came down to, If we lose Texas, we lose the nation," Fallon told The Texas Tribune. "It’s just terribly important to ensure that Texas has written a great success story and I want to keep moving that forward."
just 24 hours later:
Fallon has confirmed he will seek re-election to the 4th Congressional District after all, likely blindsiding Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick, who had already endorsed his campaign to re-take the 30th Senate District and praised him as a "solid member" of the legislature.

republican senator gets mouthy in hearing, reacting to a post made five months earlier by teamster boss O'Brien who'd called him out as a clown, a fraud and a cowboy with little man syndrome. Naturally, the showboating republican decided to use the official hearing with O'Brien as witness to act up on the floor.

this is what O'Brien posted five months ago:
Greedy CEO who pretends like he’s self made. In reality, just a clown & fraud. Always has been, always will be. Quit the tough guy act in these senate hearings. You know where to find me. Anyplace, Anytime cowboy. #LittleManSyndrome
showboating, because he knew he'd never be allowed to physically attack the witness or brawl during the hearing, and playing up to his magatty base.
Responding to the post five months later, Mullin said he was ready to settle things right there, right then.

"Sir, this is a time, this is a place. You want to run your mouth, we can be two consenting adults. We can finish it here," Mullin said. "You want to do it now?"

"I'd love to do it right now," O'Brien, 51, responded.
At that point, Mullin stood up and nearly took his wedding ring off before Sen. Sanders — who chairs the labor committee — interjected, shouting, “No, no, sit down! Sit down! You’re a United States senator!”

“This is a hearing," added Sanders, 82. "And God knows the American people have enough contempt for Congress, let’s not make it worse."
yay, Bernie.

in a swift exchange with a reporter, the republican senator said he had 'no beef' with O'Brien

some other republican talking head on CNN was making light of it all and suggested they do have a physical interaction for charity because it'd be fun. and that sums up the kind of republican thinking that has decent people despising them

Ukraine arrests officials on treason charges over Giuliani effort against Hunter Biden

Ukraine’s security services arrested a national lawmaker who previously had ties to Rudy Giuliani on Monday, claiming that he was involved in an intelligence operation on behalf of the Russian government.

Parliament member Oleksandr Dubinsky assisted Giuliani’s 2019 efforts in Ukraine to dig up political dirt against President Biden, specifically regarding his son Hunter Biden’s business in the country.

“The main task of this organization is to shake the socio-political situation in Ukraine and discredit our state in the international arena,” Ukrainian Security Services (SBU) said in a statement. “For this, the group received money from military intelligence of the [Russian Federation.]”

Dubinsky, Derkach and Kulyk were among seven Ukrainians sanctioned by the Treasury Department in 2021 for being part of a Russian misinformation ring that attempted to smear Biden in 2019.

The Treasury Department said Dubinsky’s involvement was “designed to perpetuate these and other false narratives and denigrate U.S. presidential candidates and their families.”

Saw that.

Examples of men in power behaving like children are not in short supply. It's not encouraging me to have faith in their abilities to lead. To put it kindly.

Somewhat related:

I saw Hillary Clinton on The View a few days ago, and she spoke so lucidly, eloquently, and commandingly on multiple subjects, from the middle east to women’s health, that I once again concluded she was the most qualified individual to lead our country.

Of course, she does lack the most important qualification (a dick) in some people’s minds, but still…

new warrant out for ammon bundy arrest

A judge in Idaho has issued a $250,000 arrest warrant for Ammon Bundy, the anti-government activist, after he repeatedly failed to show up in court.

The 48-year-old son of the controversial Nevada rancher Cliven Bundy, and organiser of a takeover of an Oregon wildlife reserve that left one of his supporters dead, fell foul of the court after not attending hearings in relation to a $52.5m defamation ruling against him and his political organisation.

the magats of Britain, emboldened by trumpism, take stances like this:
The Tory deputy chairman hit out after the Supreme Court ruled that the government’s flagship immigration policy was unlawful.
Speaking following a meeting of right-wing Tory MPs, he said: “We should just get the planes in the air right now and send them to Rwanda.

“People are fed up in this country. They’re fed up of being taken for a ride and paying their taxes to people who have no right to be here and are criminals.

“The government need to show our leadership and send them back. He added: “I think we should ignore the law and send them back same day.”
he was reminded that the government has to abide by the rulings of the courts.

let's be clear, there have ALWAYS been people like this no matter where you are in the world; the surge in evangelical-backed extreme right wingism has now seen them in positions of power which they then attempt to use to distort and destroy common decency for their own twisted greed.

Yevgeny “Eugene” Vindman, a retired Army colonel who along with his twin brother raised alarms about President Donald Trump’s actions toward Ukraine, plans to announce that he will run for Congress in Virginia’s 7th District, where Rep. Abigail Spanberger (D) has declined to seek another term to run for governor instead.
(y)

A career military officer who went from fighting in Iraq to serving in the White House as a national security adviser, Vindman acknowledged that he is a newcomer to Virginia politics who is better known for his time in Washington.

But his experiences immigrating to the United States from Soviet Ukraine as a child and later prosecuting cases as a judge advocate general at Fort Hood in Texas (now Fort Cavazos), he said, illustrates the kind of rule-of-law approach that he wants to bring to representing the district on the Hill.

Dis Guy! Dis Guy!! I don' get Dis Guy!

He complains the GQP is hurting his reelection chances. Then he says:

""For the life of me, I do not understand how you can go to the trouble of campaigning, raising money, going to events, talking to people, coming to this town as a member of a party who allegedly stands for something, allegedly stands for reducing spending, allegedly stands for eliminating debt, securing the border, strong military, ending the wokeness that is killing and corrupting our schools and our kids and then do nothing about it," Roy added."

Then he bitches about the MAGAts:

""Some of our brothers and sisters—particularly in the, you know, MAGA camp, I think— particularly enjoy the circular firing squad," Roy said, before rebuffing critics who referred to him as a Republican in Name Only (RINO). "You want to come at me and call me a RINO? You can kiss my a**.""

MOORE: Well, it was the result of having multiple pastors tell me essentially the same story about quoting the Sermon on the Mount parenthetically in their preaching - turn the other cheek - to have someone come up after and to say, where did you get those liberal talking points? And what was alarming to me is that in most of these scenarios, when the pastor would say, I'm literally quoting Jesus Christ, the response would not be, I apologize. The response would be, yes, but that doesn't work anymore. That's weak. And when we get to the point where the teachings of Jesus himself are seen as subversive to us, then we're in a crisis.

no idea how much NY mayor Adam's is involved or completely innocent of any wrong-doing, but the claims are out there that a member of his staff is the one the investigations probably stem from. I'm assuming it's a case of being thorough that over 100 agents issued search warrants for a dozen different locations on Tuesday and that they needed confirmation of the degree of Adam's involvement—hence the phones. It remains to be seen how much she acted unilaterally and how much under orders from Adams or someone else in his administration. Is she just being thrown under the bus as a disposable, or did she have an agenda quite apart from her duties which maybe included financial benefits for herself?

Abbasova is director of protocol for the Mayor's Office for International Affairs, where she "manages engagements with foreign dignitaries and entities," according to her official biography on the city website.

She previously worked for Adams as a community coordinator and adviser when he was Brooklyn's borough president, with responsibilities that included maintaining relationships with the Middle East and Central Asian countries and organizing "Turkic Heritage events."
although not called out by name, a spokesperson said the individual was immediately put on leave and currently remains there.
