The Isolated Politics Blurt Thread I: A New Beginning

I won't make too many predictions, except to say this: if Mark Robinson's imminent defeat demoralizes Republicans and alienates independents enough in North Carolina, that's a real problem for Trump as well as the rest of the GOP. Harris can win without the Tarheel State, but Trump absolutely needs it to have any plausible chance of victory. It's basically part of his "red wall." The last Republican to lose North Carolina was, checks notes, John McCain, in what was the closest thing to a landslide since 1984, or maybe 1988 (it's debatable about Bush vs. Dukakis, but not really about Reagan vs. Mondale or Obama vs. McCain). So, yeah, Trump must carry North Carolina, essentially, to likely take back the White House.

This is a map of, if nothing else changes except for North Carolina, how Harris prevails in the Electoral College thanks to flipping that state alone.

The red and blue lines shook and shuffled, which may be as good as it gets in our binary party system. Ideally, all 50 states would be purple.

^And Bill Clinton, John Edwards . . . show me a politician who doesn't get around. That politician's spouse probably does. Like Doug Emhoff. Allegedly, they all do it.

How many stories on lit are about politicians getting some? We might need more.

So when was the last time any of those you mentioned got up on their soapbox and lectured others about family values?

If you want to play stupid, at least acknowledge reality.

🙄

The little point about republicans’ hypocritical moralizing / gaslighting for political gain, as they were doing / are doing faaaaaar WORSE things than Democrats, obviously escapes Sternosot.

😑

👉 Sternosot 🤣

You beat me to it.

👍

I would add:

Bill Clinton wasn’t re-elected for anything after his misbehavior was exposed, and John Edwards’ campaign was over once his misbehavior was exposed.

See also:

Gary Hart, Al Franken, Bob Menendez.

😑

Al Franken shouldn’t have resigned. It was a made up bullshit accusation. Al is a comedian and a good one—he was an even better politician. He fell on his sword for the good of the party.

Orange Fuhrer sexually assaulted at the very least one woman, rumored to have raped underage girls, and fucked his way through three marriages. Oh noes! Al Franken pantomimed that he was grabbing some bimbo’s tits. (clutches pearls)

Hypocrisy is a human tendency, not a partisan tendency. The Dems hypocritize (verb invented for the occasion) on other shit, mostly green shit lately. Pubs soapboxing about family values and then stepping on their dicks can somewhat prove their points with the dick stepping. "If you do what I do, this happens." After a few thousand more dicks are stomped flat, maybe they'll find an eleventh commandment covering threesomes: "If you want a threesome with your spouse, then your spouse comes first, and chooses the partner."

Dem hypocrisy. Spare me. This is about GOP hypocrisy spouting family values all while holding up anti-family cheating lying assholes.

How is withdrawal from combat operations considered.patriotic or not? The question is bullshit to begin with. She had no interest in debate and just wanted a gotcha.

I would suggest this isn't gish galloping, as I think mostly that involves much more off topic things and rapid fire of those topics. This seems to all be related to the withdrawal.

RFK jnr asks for intervention to get his name back on the NY presidential ballot, even as he's sued to get it off other state's/counties, despite not meeting the rules requiring him to have a permanent residency there:

Lower courts excluded the former independent candidate from the ballot after finding he falsely claimed residency in the state because his Katonah, N.Y., address was not his fixed and permanent residency.

his lawyers argue that he rented a room and stayed there one night, so he needs to be on the ballot ... w.t.f?
Kennedy indicated in court filings that he has rented a room in the home from a childhood friend and stayed overnight on one occasion. His attorneys noted lower courts “did not find that anyone was misled,” insisting that taking him off the ballot was irrevocably depriving Kennedy’s New York supporters of their right to vote for him.

“The address on Kennedy’s petition was and is entirely immaterial — both to voters and to New York,”
how do they even have the front to bring this to court again?
how does staying one time overnight in a rented room equate to a 'fixed and permanent residency'? it does not. They should be fined for bringing a frivolous suit.

trump demanded he get his name back on the ballot to draw votes away from Harris?

Jill Stein paid $100,000 to a Republican consulting firm led by a suspected January 6 rioter

Stein, now in her third race for the White House, has fought to secure ballot access in multiple battleground states and has been represented by Trump-affiliated lawyers, the Journal reported. Indeed, Stein's campaign has paid six figures to a Republican-tied consulting firm led by a man accused of participating in the Jan. 6, 2021 attack on the U.S. Capitol

In Nevada, the Democratic Party initiated a lawsuit to exclude the Green Party from the ballot, claiming the party used the wrong form to collect signatures from voters. The Green Party appealed the case and was represented by Jay Sekulow
it was rejected

In Wisconsin, Democratic National Committee employee David Strange sought to remove Stein from the ballot by arguing the Green Party can’t nominate presidential electors without legislative candidates eligible to do so. The Wisconsin Supreme Court declined to hear the case. Stein was again legally represented by a Trump-affiliated lawyer, Michael D. Dean, who was involved in lawsuits that attempted to overturn the results of the 2020 election, the Journal reported.

now i have nothing against, and a lot 'for' the Green Party itself, but since Stein's embrace of trumpworld? she has no place leading it

Arizona's Democratic Senate candidate Ruben Gallego has hit a significant milestone in his race against Republican candidate Kari Lake, Knewz.com is reporting.

Gallego now leads Lake 53% to 39%, according to the latest Morning Consult poll.
that's up from his 8 point lead in earlier polls

"Nobody wins by 15 points. I put zero stock in these polls," Lake argued
^^quoting for posterity, just in case :D

the dog whistle has been whistled.

1488 is a combination of two popular white supremacist numeric symbols. The first symbol is 14, which is shorthand for the "14 Words" slogan: "We must secure the existence of our people and a future for white children." The second is 88, which stands for "Heil Hitler" (H being the 8th letter of the alphabet). Together, the numbers form a general endorsement of white supremacy and its beliefs. As such, they are ubiquitous within the white supremacist movement - as graffiti, in graphics and tattoos, even in screen names and e-mail addresses, such as aryanprincess1488@hate.net. Some white supremacists will even price racist merchandise, such as t-shirts or compact discs, for $14.88.

One factor that has to be considered is the difference of contrasts. Compared to Biden, Trump seemed relatively healthy and lucid. Compared to Harris, not as much. I've also been shocked at just how fast he seems to have gone downhill lately, far more than was apparent even earlier in the year. It's quite terrifying, when you think about it.
