The Lit experience: men v women

I am in the share your voice thread, and was open about, generally, where in the country I live. I had meetings with this person, and they put 2 and 2 together.
I’m sorry to hear you had to go through that. People can be awful.

Did this person actually try to make it an issue for you at work? I really hope they received some sort of consequences at work and are no longer on Lit.

It was insinuated that I could lose my job. I was scared but decided to go to HR after a while and they backed me. It was about 8 months start to finish going through the steps and lawyers and in the end I have my job and I am here and they are not.
Fortunately, there isn't much they can do to retaliate against me, because it would all lead back to the legal end of things and that is in my favor.

That’s really awful. Geez. Not the best thing to go through. :(

I’m glad HR backed you and you’re on the other side of it now, but talk about a nightmare.

I am so sorry you had to go through this. I’m naive when it comes to this type of behavior so thank you for sharing.

Thank you so much. There are things many here safeguard and some throw caution to the wind. This is giving me a better reason of why people do what they do. Self protection is of the utmost importance.

I'm a man who has been on here seven years on and off. I don't feel invisible at all. It's what you make of it. Have something to say other than Hi, in the room or typing "." or the other old standard "back" just to type something. That shows me and others that you have no imagination (especially if your profile is empty) so you will most likely not be engaged by anyone else. Certainly don't keep copy and pasting your same old tired phrase into the same room for hours and hours. Change it up.

Try to join in the conversation by adding to it. Or just be a goof and throw out a joke. I'm not bragging when I say I never have to PM a woman first (unless it's someone I already know). I usually am silly/playful in chat and that gets me noticed. The lady then reads or doesn't read my profile and they PM me, and sometimes it's multiple people at the same time which gets difficult because you're trying to figure out which one you like.

I find more often than not if I only talk with the first PM person and tell the others sorry I'm talking to someone else now, then the first person leaves after a couple minutes and now I've lost both. So I generally talk to both to see who might bail because someone more interesting PM'd them or they have to go, etc. I'm a guy so no I don't get a ton of PM's at all. But I'm not bored either. I'll just participate in the main room(s) I'm in and something will always shake loose.

A better men to women ratio would make it a better experience on here.
Fixing how often chatters get "booted" out of the rooms because the server is bad would be the #1 solution.
