When my husband and I were talking about this he seemed to think being a Dom had to do with yelling.

Maybe for some that is good but for me yelling is like violence that I don't find the slightest bit hot, cringe worthy is more like it in my book.

So commanding can be good IMO, but if you think that means yelling then I'd say no that won't do it for me personally.

Definitely, but there can be a commanding tone to the voice without it rising in decibels. For me, that is hot. I like that quiet power kind of thing much more than the volume.

Fortunately, Dh has that tone.

Tone of voice is very important to me.

He can take me places with his voice alone, he doesn't have to touch me, just talk to me.

My mind can follow his tone of voice without registering the actual words spoken. I can somehow 'disappear' and go into an almost meditative state, I come back feeling refreshed, loved and cared for. It is an amazing thing to have happen and I trust him to bring me back safely; allow me to recover and then hold me quietly.

I don't object to people shouting, at least you know they are mad.
A soft tone when someone is angry is, to me, very scary. I can feel a real fear coming over me and feel an urge to hide and run.

A flight or fight issue.

When I refer to a shouting I do mean top of the voice volume, not loud voice trying to explain something. Or the top of voice that increases due to exasperation or frustration.

A soft tone seems to indicate they are in control of their anger. Out of control anger is easier to disable compared to an anger that is controlled and somewhat planned.

I had to yell when the kids were wrestling and I was trying to coach but during practice it was different. As well as in the Marines. We needed to "project" our voices and take a command presense.

When marching we have to call cadance. Yelling isn't going to get the job done. You have to project your voice and make sure it's understood.

And when you teach people, whether it's wrestling, Marines or subbies you need to speak clearly, confidently and with a certain control projected.

The importance of the "voice" depends on how we are defining Dom.
I find and have found that all I need to do is walk into a room and it ocmes under my control ... and can generated pissed off people without me saying a word.
