Good to know, are you writing, or have you written a Halloween story?I'm friendly and open-minded, but I value compromise and communication.

It’s not easy at the moment@EmilyMiller,
Nice picture as usual. And thank you for keeping the spirit positive in these challenging times on the site.
Some stories have now been published - several hours late. But I know of two cases where a story was meant to be published today and hasn’t been as yet. Maybe they are working through a backlog, but stories normally publish en masse.
Anyone having problems?
They did an upgrade and clearly botched it. See here. Whether or not these things are relatedNot sure if it's related, but the Activities feed in my author homepage is bugged, too, with the message: "Unfortunately, we can not display Activities due to a technical issue right now. Please try again later." New notifications are not showing.
My story is up, and apparently is an "Editor's Choice," according to my barely functional Notifications Feed.My next story, and my entry for the 2025 Halloween contest, “Aphrodite’s Law,” will be posted on October 16.
Let’s hope the E isn’t just a glitch, right? My story is up, and apparently is an "Editor's Choice," according to my barely functional Notifications Feed.
It might just be a glitch. [sigh] Sucks. Still, they can take away my E, but they can't take away my screenshot of them telling me I got one.Let’s hope the E isn’t just a glitch, right?
I dont want to burst your bubble but one of the authors I follow published the first chapter of a story and it too became an Editors Choice immediately after being published…It might just be a glitch. That's all right, others already burst my bubbleI dont want to burst your bubble but one of the authors I follow published the first chapter of a story and it too became an Editors Choice immediately after being published…
Well, CRAP. They reclassified my story unilaterally as Erotic Horror. Just because it was implied that a couple of hikers were turned into furniture by our plucky heroine?Based on experience spanning two Halloween Comps where I was dumb enough to publish in Erotic Horror, avoid it like the plague. Low views and lower tolerance for anything not precisely their kink. 1/5 would not recommend.

Awww. Not a fan of AI, but the composition and the xenomorph are really cuteView attachment 2571638

Writing to a comp deadline can be tricky. I empathize.I enjoyed writing Dancing Naked in the Moonlight? more than I expected. For the third time, I thought of a Halloween story as standalone and quickly had ideas for follow-ups.
Unfortunately, I rushed it. I wrote it after finishing a non-Halloween story and before going on a family trip, where it would be much harder to write and edit, so I had a pseudo-deadline well before the official one. I've noticed several things I'll probably change about it before starting Worshipping Satan? Corrupting the Innocent? or Riding Broomsticks? The process of revising a story sounds ominous, so I guess I can look forward to that learning experience.
I was going for an, “Aw! We’ve got a puppy,” vibe.@EmilyMiller, lovely Alien reference. Love the smile on Lily and Emma
