The now fully official Author’s Hangout Halloween 2025 competition support thread

Well, my story's set to publish tomorrow (17th). Looks like it's going to get lost in the crowd by this point, but at least my perfect publishing streak holds.

Enjoy the tricks and treats, everyone.

No new stories published today (as yet).

I guess I’ll pick up this thread when the site sorts itself out.

Anyone scheduled to publish today has already lost many hours on the overall new page and respective category new page, which puts them at a disadvantage with respect to the competition.

Not sure what the site is going to do about that, if anything.

Some stories have now been published - several hours late. But I know of two cases where a story was meant to be published today and hasn’t been as yet. Maybe they are working through a backlog, but stories normally publish en masse.

Anyone having problems?

After yet another site glitch, I guess welcome to Day Fifteen of The Halloween 2025 Comp.

I wonder what exciting new problems await us in the next few days.

(If you were published today and haven’t made it to the comp list above, PM both @Laurel and @Manu with the name of your story and asking them to sort out the problem, hopefully they will be responsive).

Not sure if it's related, but the Activities feed in my author homepage is bugged, too, with the message: "Unfortunately, we can not display Activities due to a technical issue right now. Please try again later." New notifications are not showing.

However, of all the random things, certain old notifications are suddenly showing as new, specifically the "My Comments" feed. So I got treated to a walk down memory lane of the comments I've made on others' stories, which was actually not a terrible bug because I only generally comment on stories that I liked and made an impression, but still, made me do a double-take when I saw the notifications springing in my feed.

They did an upgrade and clearly botched it. See here. Whether or not these things are related 🤷‍♀️

My next story, and my entry for the 2025 Halloween contest, “Aphrodite’s Law,” will be posted on October 16.
My story is up, and apparently is an "Editor's Choice," according to my barely functional Notifications Feed.

It might just be a glitch. [sigh] Sucks. Still, they can take away my E, but they can't take away my screenshot of them telling me I got one.
I dont want to burst your bubble but one of the authors I follow published the first chapter of a story and it too became an Editors Choice immediately after being published…

That's all right, others already burst my bubble :)

Based on experience spanning two Halloween Comps where I was dumb enough to publish in Erotic Horror, avoid it like the plague. Low views and lower tolerance for anything not precisely their kink. 1/5 would not recommend.
Well, CRAP. They reclassified my story unilaterally as Erotic Horror. Just because it was implied that a couple of hikers were turned into furniture by our plucky heroine?

Guess we'll see what that'll do.

I enjoyed writing Dancing Naked in the Moonlight? more than I expected. For the third time, I thought of a Halloween story as standalone and quickly had ideas for follow-ups.

Unfortunately, I rushed it. I wrote it after finishing a non-Halloween story and before going on a family trip, where it would be much harder to write and edit, so I had a pseudo-deadline well before the official one. I've noticed several things I'll probably change about it before starting Worshipping Satan? Corrupting the Innocent? or Riding Broomsticks? The process of revising a story sounds ominous, so I guess I can look forward to that learning experience.

Writing to a comp deadline can be tricky. I empathize.
