I unravel my shawl from where it has kept me warm through the evening.

Hello, Marianne, I'm Essie. I just got here last night. Do you visit the Inn often?

Folding my shawl up, I tentatively hold it out.

Sorry to hear you aren't feeling very well. Would you... you're welcome to borrow my shawl, if you like? It's very cosy.

Placing it on the low table in front of the fire, I quietly hasten from my chair over to the counter, nervously approaching the kind innkeeper

Good morning, Mr CG. Um, I'm terribly sorry but I.... I don't have any money on me so I can't pay you for the tea and muffins. But if you need any help at the Inn, I could wash dishes or clean rooms or something to pay you back for your kindness. I'd hate to be a bother.

Stopping in for a cup of coffee.

"Hey CG"

Seeing that Mari is not well again, cuddled in with her tea. I give her a gentle hug and a soft kiss on the head. "Hey there Miss Mari, I'm sorry you're not feeling well again."

Waving to Glad if he's still lurking, and noting a newcomer...

"Welcome Essie. I'm HF, Pleasure to meet you.

So did Lit the Lit crash catch everyone last night?"

Freezing Mari? Sure sounds like you have a fever Miss.

A hug and a soft kiss caresses her cheek and then I warp the shivering Miss in a downy blanket.

*smiles and sighs softly as she snuggles in the blanket*

Thank you Cg ... mmm ... that's nice ...

I could be described as a ... regular ... though I could be described in many other ways too ...

*ggls despite her ailments*

Many thanks for the offer of the shawl. I think I'm ok for now, but that is so kind of you Essie.

Thanks Fun ...

Seeing Marianne has been joined at the fire by a friend, I feel awkward returning to my armchair and intruding.

Quietly tiptoeing up, I slide my bag from next to the chair, trying not to disturb them, managing to snag the corner of my shawl and drag it towards me.

Kneeling, I scrabble at the bottom of the bag, searching desperately for some hidden money to leave for the tea. Managing to come up with a few stray coins, I rise and leave them on the counter. Taking a deep breath, I start for the door.

Your not a bother at all Essie and as for the matter of money its not really a problem. Yeishia tends to the morning coffee and the fire and she is very jealous about her beloved chores. I would never submit a young Lady to the trials and tribulations off Phoo Ming's domain.....

I lean a little closer and whisper.

He rules the Inn's kitchens as if he were the Emperor of China, and he has been know to have a roaming eye and hands when it comes to attractive young ladies Essie. But I could use a hand straitening up the rooms.

I smile as I pass her a pot of tea and some muffins.

Your most welcome Mari its the least I could do for a old friend.

Morning H F, coffee?

That's not necessary or very gracious Essie when everyone has said how welcome you are here ...

Pours a large glass of ice water and set it next to her :rose:

Thank you Fun ... :rose:

Prering a to go cup for my coffee I see Essie heading for the door.

No need to leave Essie, but I need to head out and start the day. I hope you feel better soon Mari.

CG, and all who may be lurking... Have a great day.

Hearing CG's words as he approaches me at the door, I put my bag down, turn to him and smile.

You're a kind man, I'd be happy to help with the housekeeping.

As I start to head back into the Inn, I hear the Maiden's words and my face crumples.

I'm sorry, I didn't mean to be... I'm not ungrateful, I just thought... I'm so sorry.

Brushing past the Maiden's friend, I push the door open and run out of the Inn into the street.

Essie pleas come back You will need some money for the road Miss and the rooms do need a good cleaning.

The need to pay ones own way is one I know well. It is also the need to maintain one's self esteem and not to accept charity.

H F take care out there in the R W.

I sidle back into the doorway, wiping the tears from my cheeks.

"Please help me," I whisper. "I have nowhere else to go."

Well then Essie say for awhile help around the Inn and earn your room and board and a bit to spare. Mind you Miss this isn't charity but a job offer to help you get back on your feet. Besides a pretty chamber maid might draw a few more paying guests.;)

Now drink your tea before it grow cold!

Mari your giggles are always so naughty and they are normally followed by a maidenly blush Miss.

I wouldn't expect charity, absolutely not. If you can let me know where the staff quarters are, I can go and freshen up.

Essie we are much to small and Inn to have Staff quarters just take the back stairs and find an empty room to call your own for now. It will give you a chance to explore the Inn as well, get to know the place a little better.;)

Any questions you can either ask me or Phoo Ming.. Just call to him I would not recommend going into the kitchens its his domain and I try never to upset the cook.;)

*raises an eyebrow*

Are you sure you know what you're doing there, Cg?

:rose:

*steps quietly into the tavern and looks about. Seeing the familiar faces, he smiles and offers his greetings. Hugs... handshakes... smiles... All the regular forms of greeting are given before he heads to the coffee pot to fill a cup*

*offers Mari a light kiss on the top of her head and brushes the hair from her face where it peeks out from her cocoon*

Morning, Mari. Still not feeling well, I take it...

*looks around for a moment*

Has anyone seen Essie. She fell asleep in here last night. I've been kind of worried about her.
