Always start with the first notch on the clasp. As you wear the bra it will start to stretch. As it stretches use the second and then third notch.If you buy a bra and have to start on the third notch, it's most likely the wrong size.

Maybe I am just odd, but I always start with the tightest notch. Any looser and it feels strange. It probably has something to do with my actual rib cage measurement being between sizes...
Go down in the band 1 size; up in the cup 1 size. Although there's a chance you might need to go down two sizes. I'm always amazed at the number of women who think they wear X size [band], when they really wear 1-4 sizes smaller - which impacts the cup size.
