The State of American Education.

Hey Chobham.. curious if you currently have kids in any aspect of the education system?

I just don’t get where you are getting this information from. It’s one thing to read nutters opining and whining about this or that but I just don’t get it.

I have a kid in middle school and one in college here in NY. Also my wife is a teacher in NYC schools. Aside from all NYC schools being day care facilities and kids acting out for lack of parents, none of what you’re saying makes any sense to me. You’d think NY being a bastion of liberal lefties we’d be inundated with this nonsense but it’s just not true.

More and more the state of American education is coming to the attention of the public. From Primary to Secondary, to the University system they have all been taken over by propagandists. DEI is prevalent at all levels of our system.

On the primary and secondary level they’ve been flying under the radar for almost two decades now. The concept is a pervasive cancer eating away at the future of the nation and reason in general.

DeSantis has stepped up and is addressing the issue in Florida by taking the Teachers Union off at the knees and its well past the time someone should do so. Because of the power of the various Teacher’s Unions the politicians of the states have abdicated their responsibilities to the public in order to secure the teachers votes. In effect the teachers unions were allowed to run the various states education system as they willed. And that abdication on the politicians part is a serious problem because in the end they, and only they, are responsible for the state of education.

DEI is having the same effect on higher education, but the decision on the part of the administrators is already beginning to have dire consequences. This is especially true with regard to the Ivy League schools. By severely relaxing their entrance requirements and establishing quotas based on some superficial applicant feature they’ve forced the professors to make a choice. Dumb down the curricula or hold to standards or face being referred to as racist/misogynist/discriminatory. Those professors that stand their ground are being forced out of the system. This is all done in the efforts to be seen to be worshipping at the altar of DEI while the underlying motive is money.

The full term (4 years) tuition at an Ivy League school is upwards of $300K depending on major. The more bodies they can move through the system the better off the school will be financially and, oh by the way, the tenured professors as well. As with all things in life decisions always come with unintended consequences. Once, if you graduated from a premiere university with an above average GPA, you were set for life. The top companies didn’t even bother to interview you. That is no longer true. Now that those same schools are graduating a sub-standard product extensive interviews are now the norm. As a matter of fact some companies have resorted to testing, both in subject knowledge and native IQ as well. What these universities haven’t seemed to figure out is that they are diminishing their own brand. A crude analogy would be for GM to sell you a Yugo branded as a Cadillac. Eventually this is going to catch up to them and the more intelligent will figure out that paying $300K for a Yugo makes no sense.

This whole philosophy is trickling down to the lesser schools, after all who doesn’t want to be like Harvard? The good news is that this is going to open up an opportunity for schools that refuse to lower their standards for the sake of appearances. By my estimation this whole transformation is going to take from 10 to 20 years unless the major universities wake up and change their ways.
If you want to see the sorry state of American education, just look what happened to VatAss. 🤷‍♂️

George Carlin ~ The American Dream

There’s a reason that education sucks and it’s the same reason that it will never ever be fixed. It’s never going to get better, don’t look for it so be happy with what you’ve got; because the owners of this country don’t want that. I’m talking about the real owners now; the real owners, the big wealthy business interests that control things and make all the important decisions. Forget the politicians; the politicians are put there to give you the idea that you have freedom of choice. You don’t, you have no choice. You have owners; they own you. They own everything; they own all the important land. They own and control the corporations. They’ve long since bought and paid for the senate, the congress, the state house, the city halls they’ve got the judges in their back pockets. They own all the big media companies so they control just about all the news and information you get to hear. They got ya by the balls!

They spend billions of dollars every year lobbying to get what they want. Well we know what they want; they want more for themselves and less for everybody else. But I’ll tell you what they don’t want. They don’t want a population of citizens capable of critical thinking. They don’t want well informed, well educated people capable of critical thinking; they’re not interested in that. That doesn’t help them; that‘s against their interests. They don’t want people smart enough to sit around the kitchen table and realize how badly they’re getting fucked by a system that threw them overboard 30 fucking years ago They don’t want that.

You know what they want? They want obedient workers; people who are just smart enough to run the machines and do the paperwork and just dumb enough to passively accept all these increasingly shittier jobs with the lower pay, the longer hours, reduced benefits, the end of overtime and the vanishing pension that disappears the minute you got to collect it. Now they’re coming for your social security money. They want your fucking retirement money. They want it back so that they can give it to their criminal friends on Wall St. And you know something; they’ll get it. They’ll get it all from you sooner or later; because they own this fucking place. It’s a big club and you ain’t in it. You and I are not in the big club.

By the way it’s the same big club they use to beat you over the head all day long when they tell you what to believe; All day long in their meetings telling you what to believe, what to think and what to buy. The table is tilted folks; the game is rigged and nobody seems to notice, nobody seems to care.

Good honest hard working people, white collar blue collar it doesn’t matter what color shirt you have on. Good honest hard working people of modest means continue to elect these rich cock suckers who don’t give a fuck about them. They don’t give a fuck about you. They don’t care about you at all. But nobody seems to notice, nobody seems to care and that’s what the owners count on; the fact that Americans will probably remain willfully ignorant of the red, white and blue dick that’s being jammed up their ass every day. Because the owners in this country know the truth; it’s called the American dream because you have to be asleep to believe it.

Any country where the populace regard themselves as automatically superior is doomed.

And a system where extremist politicians demand to their frightened colleagues that they pass laws stating that children must be taught that a mixture of bronze age legends and wishful thinking is superior to what humans have actually learned in the last couple of thousand years, is unlikely to produce future world beaters.

Just for context, the OP who is whinging about the state of American education is the same OP who wrote "Peterson under assault by the state."

I read somewhere that some companies that once required a Bach degree are no longer keeping with that standard, prefer to train on the job. It’s pretty bad when our kids are coming out dumber than when they went in.
All educational standards as we understand them today will fall by the wayside under the woke agenda of Marxist Randi Weingarten who have made a life's work out of propagandizing children in Marxist anti-American values after having her communist ideas rejected by a majority of American parents writ large.

Trump appointed Betsy DeVos as head of Ed. and she hates education. Where were you then?

We should ban the 1619 project being taught K-12 IMHO Substitute calculus, organic chemistry, advanced economics, personal finance, stock market and enhanced English writing skills for 1619, would better serve our students. Once in college have at it.
So you want to inject classes that are commonly taught in higher Ed in secondary education?

The fact the first ship with enslaved persons shows up in 1619 isn’t something that is disputable. And is that your problem with it? That slavery was brought to what is the British colonies in North America that becomes the United States?

They will admit members of politically favored minorities who do not belong on the campus.

Those students will drop out, flunk out, or get worthless degrees in ethnic studies.
Not likely considering in 2020, the most recent year for which numbers are immediately available, there were only 506 Ethnic Studies degrees awarded in the entire USA. I've been in dorms that housed more students at one time than that. By the way, do you even know anyone who's been an undergrad any time recently? I know you haven't, since you were old enough to vote in 1968. Your comment reads exactly like someone who hasn't even set foot on a campus in decades, but who's been listening to a lot of talk radio and thinks he knows all about it.
A ban on affirmative action in hiring decisions will be effective. Few bosses like being pressured to hire subordinates who cannot do the job, do not try, and do not care.
I don't suppose you have any firsthand knowledge of that actually happening, do you?
(Okay, knowing you, you're going to claim you've talked to a lot of people who have been in just that situation. Right...)

1. The 1619 Project has nothing to do with school curricula in the first place.
2. Are you saying we shouldn't teach history in school at all? Or are you saying we should stick with the elementary school version, where America was born perfect and has only gotten better?

I don’t suppose you can prove it’s not happening. Can’t understand why you’re so anti-American, being the full blown Marxist explains a lot. You have that elitist tinge.

I put my two daughters through college we always talked about their course selections, about what they’re being taught, always reviewed their syllabuses and discussed career paths.

It's not just your kids, potato boi. Don't you own a mirror?

What good is a degree in Black Studies? There are not enough jobs for Diversity Specialists for all the people who get degrees in Black Studies.

A degree in Black Studies would be a blinking red light for most supervisors. Someone with that degree would look at American Society with attitudes of personal grievance and entitlement.

In my first job as a computer programmer my computer shop hired a black programmer. It soon became obvious that he could not do his job, he did not try, and he did not care.

When I learned that the black programmer was earning twice what I was earning, I discussed the matter with our boss. Our boss told me, "When I was promoted to be the manager of this computer shop I was told that I would be evaluated in part by my ability to attract and keep black subordinates. I was also told that I was supposed to expect less from them."

I lost the job of my dreams (a career start) to affirmative action, scored 30 points higher but lost it to two black men who were both terminated within 2 years. Their only qualification was being a minority.

If slavery is taught it should also be taught that blacks were not enslaved by whites. They were enslaved by other blacks and sold to whites.

The French Encyclopedia was published in France before the French Revolution. Diderot, d'Alembert, Voltaire, and others contributed essays to it.

The essay entitled "Negroes" was written by a man named Le Romain. Le Romain was opposed to slavery, and described it as "this loathsome commerce, which is contrary to national law."

He also wrote:

[Some Negroes] "are prisoners taken during wars or in the course of the raid with no other object than to get slaves whom they bring back with them: the young, the old, the women, girls even with babies at their mothers' breasts.

"There are Negroes who ambush each other while the European vessels are lying at anchor, and they bring those whom they have captured to the vessels to sell them and have them loaded on board against their wills. Thus one sees sons selling their fathers, fathers their children. Still more frequently one sees Negroes who are not linked by family ties put a price of a few bottles [of liquor] or bars of iron on each other's freedom."

This is quoted from page 261 of my translation of the Encyclopedia, published by The Library of Liberal Arts.

Until modern medicine was invented after the end of the White and American slave trade, African diseases prevented whites from entering the interior of Africa.

Slavery was commonplace among Negroes in sub Saharan Africa. Black slaves were sometimes the victims of cannibalism or human sacrifices.

I have read, although I no longer have the book, that Negro slaves in the United States usually lived longer and grew taller than free Negroes in sub Saharan Africa. This indicates better health.

I am not in any way justifying the slave trade. I think the worse mistake European settlers made in the Americas was to bring Negroes here as slaves.

If black history is taught in K-12 schools it should also be taught that blacks have lower average intelligence than whites, and higher rates of crime and illegitimacy. It must be taught that black rates of crime and illegitimacy rose after 1963, when the civil rights legislation was signed, and the War on Poverty was declared.

No you didn't. You just tell people that because you didn't get the job.

Nobody would hire you because you're an ass.
LMFAO You’re such a dickweed. :D

You being an ignoramus you believe affirmative action was a positive, it wasn’t, it hurt more than it helped. Maybe someday you’ll pull your head out of your ass.

He doesn't care as much as you do about my posts.

Accept that you're a racist. There is no such thing as race realist.

You're the one lying about shit to get people to agree with you...not my fault.

You didn't get the job because other people were better qualified. Sorry you have to make it about race to feel better about yourself.
