The Western Woods

And through the woods I went a walking, gazing at the trees.
Then still and perfect against the sky, what there should I see?
A lovely witch, at rest and peace, elbows on her knees.
And Lovely fresh, with sparkling eyes, a piece of new company.

Beauty. Trees and girls, the woods and wanders, so much to behold.
And I intrude, I know I do, upon this meeting of souls.
So off I'll run to test the woods, be brave and wild and bold.
But not disturb these tender nymphs, upon their grassy knolls.

Another day, another time. I'll make my presence known.
But Now. Just now, I'll curse myself, for chances I have blown.

You idiot. There are two of them and one of them likes you.

"Good Morning"

I look round at the sound of a voice and my lips soon curve with a smile, my blue eyes meeting emerald sparkles.

" and a gorgeous morning it is"

"It is indeed, pleasure to meet you..." I extend a hand. "I'm Brit, please join me if you'd like...always lovely to make new friends..." I shift up slightly, allowing room for her to rest against the rock should she wish.

My hand brushes hers, a light meeting, a fond greeting.

"I am called Rain"

The slightest nod of my head, lips curling into a smile.

"yes, I too enjoy meeting new, and like minded friends"

With a soft sigh, I rest against the cool embrace of the rock. I find that laying back provides the perfect view of the surrounding woods, the trees, the sun glinting off the green of leaves, coloring the brown of the bark into a pretty bronze.

"nice and quiet, sometimes I do enjoy the quiet"

"I am called Rain...yes, I too enjoy meeting new, and like minded friends"

"What a pretty name. Is this your first visit to these parts...?" I ask curiously.

"nice and quiet, sometimes I do enjoy the quiet"

"Sometimes we all need a little quiet, and this is a gorgeous spot to find it."
I sigh, leaning back against the rock and letting my eyes move over the vista before us.

"These are magical woods though...should you wish for something a little more, exciting or captivating...I am quite sure you'd find it along one path or another..." I grin.

"oh I have ventured into these parts before, but at that time, I was a whole other person. And even then, this particular personality dabbled a bit here. But, this is my first time in this beautiful part of this world, in your forest. You remind me a bit of me, in style and personality, and your minute attention to details, so I thought to wonder in and say hello"

A soft bow of my head in thanks to the comment on my name.

"I can be hot or cold, wet or scalding, hence I chose the name"

The slyest of grins crossing my lips.

"As for the paths, I must say, I am looking forward to a bit of an adventure, and wonder just who I may manged to cross paths with"

That makes me laugh, with a wink to Britwitch.

"May I ask, do you prefer Brit, Witch, or Britwitch? Rain is preferable for me"

"Ah, the forest isn't mine, I simply show others the way here...but I do love to spend my time here...I have a Cottage in these woods, a little way from here and can't think of anywhere else I'd rather have it...and thank you for the compliments..."

"I can be hot or cold, wet or scalding, hence I chose the name"

"More than just pretty, an apt name...even more special!"

"As for the paths, I must say, I am looking forward to a bit of an adventure, and wonder just who I may manged to cross paths with...May I ask, do you prefer Brit, Witch, or Britwitch? Rain is preferable for me"

"I honestly don't mind. Most call me Brit, some call me Witch, others call me by their own variations..." I mirror the wink. "I'll answer to almost anything though..."

"Does Hey you work?? ... hehhee.. Kidding.. I like Brit better than Witch, so Brit it shall be!!"

Grins

"I tend to answer to most anything too, depending of course on who is doing the .... calling"

Winking

"Does Hey you work?? ... hehhee.. Kidding.. I like Brit better than Witch, so Brit it shall be!!"

"Brit's good," I nod and add, "And to be honest, it probably would!"

"I tend to answer to most anything too, depending of course on who is doing the .... calling"

"I understand that completely. Some names from certain lips take on a whole new meaning..."

*Smiles, quietly and serenely in my section of the woods. Thinking on the power of Names.*

"Oh yesssss.... It most certainly does!!!!"

"Oh yesssss.... It most certainly does!!!!"

Smiles to herself thinking of some of monikers she's been awarded over time before forcing herself back to the present and smiling at her newest acquaintance.

"But for now, I must bid you adieu...the RW is pulling me rather rudely away from this lovely place but it has been a delight to meet you, I've read a thread of yours and hoped I'd get to before long...and so I look forward to our paths crossing again, sometime...nice to meet you Rain."

With a sigh the Witch leaves the lakeside and the lovely woman with the sparkling eyes, certain to return in the near future.

"ahhh, the RW, It is always the most important.

It has been a great pleasure to meet you Brit.. And I know we will chat again soon as I like it here..."

A soft wave goodbye... for now...

A quiet moment is needed and so to the lake I go.
Choosing not to head for the sandy shore but for a grassy bank over looking the calm waters I lay on my stomach, chin cushioned on folded arms and sigh. Peace at last.

Frustration courses through my veins, a relatively unfamiliar feeling and a most unwanted one. I need to walk, to wander, to breathe deeply and get rid of this awful feeling.

The winding paths of the woods help, the fresh air, the breeze. By the time I reach the river I'm already much calmer, once I've hitched up my skirt and waded through it...getting rather wet despite my best efforts...I feel a lot better. More like myself.

With a sigh I head up a slight rise that leads to a clearing, surrounded by trees with a large warm rock at the centre. I climb up onto it, damp skirts hitched up around my thighs to dry and sit. Just sit. Enjoying the stillness...the calm...

The woods are quiet and then a short sound breaks the silence. A splash. But then the stillness returns. Beside the lake, in amongst the trees, a wanderer might find a sundress and a pair of sandals. Left in a heap in the grass beside the rippling waters.

The owner suddenly surfaces several metres from the shore, naked by all appearances and her face lit up with enjoyment.

"That feels so much better..." I sigh, revelling in the coolness caressing my skin. Before starting to swim, languidly, across the lake's surface. Alternating between a slow, steady breaststroke and a lazy front crawl.
