The world is screwed. It's Over. It's done!!! The Future is No More!

@yowser I've got one more for the list from a medic friend, who queried the consultant notes.

'Sunset'

This program is being sunset on (date).

What happened to retired, terminated or discontinued? Even just 'will end'.

The future, and honestly the present, overall is bleak to me. I'm tired of how we're progressing. I really didn't want to make it this far in life as I watch various scifi movie plots and setting take effect. A lot of this so-called "progression" is bullshit to me. Some things I've wanted to do for a living just isn't the same, it's like I missed the golden era, like when I drove a cab briefly. This new sociopolitical enviroment is sickening. I'm happy to be engaged because dating is fucking trash, and most of my past relationships seemed to be pure luck, anyway. The tech sector has became ass, so has the automotive one. And the best we can do is deal with it. I wasn't able to prosper in my youth, so at far too close to forty, I got nothing but struggles.

I understand how "the future" can be scary. How change makes most everyone uncomfortable. However, the future is also where hope and planning come to shine. Ain't gonna clamber up on a soapbox, just as bad as it is gonna get, it's also gonna get good. Heaven for the spider is hell for the fly.

This is nothing new. Back in the 1980s, if you heard an upbeat song, chances were it was about nuclear war, drugs and addiction, suicide, or some other nastiness. Seriously, "1999" by Prince? "Vamos A La Playa"? "99 Luftballon"? "Big In Japan" by Alphaville? "Two Tribes" by Frankie Goes To Hollywood? Any of a hundred more songs? That was the 1980s saying, "The end is nigh."

A linguistic scholar gives a high school speech in Gen Alpha dialect and has to provide subtitles so adults can understand it.

'Grow'.

We grow plants.

We might grow food.

We do not 'grow' a business.

We do not 'grow' our money (as much as we might wish we could).

We do not 'grow' a business.
I don't think I agree with you on this one.

Yes, it's only the fourth definition of grow in the dictionary I just checked.
But all four definitions are simply different processes for something becoming larger.

Having founded four companies and been employee #2 for another one and run R&D for a software company, taking it from a small vendor through its IPO, I definitely feel like I've grown companies. They take a great deal of nurturing and care to move from a few people to a few hundred people. I'll admit I;m not a big gardner, but I have tended gardens and grown food. Companies feel just as grown as any plant I have ever tended to. I guess I should say small companies. I'm somewhat allergic to large companies and managed avoiding becoming a badged employee at any company with a thousand employees. (My wife has not dodged that curse completely)

Out of the three institutions I have taught full time at, I hated the two large institutions. Probably the two largest employers and I worked for. My feelings may not be completely coincidental.

Hair grows, beards grow, finger and toe nails grow.

A business may grow.

But we do not 'grow a business.'

Are all non-organic meanings of grow invalid to you?
From the dictionary definitions, is growing a crystal not correct, in your mind?
How about relationships? Do friendships grow? Can you grow a relationship?

"we technically have coverage in my department but lowkey i dont want anyone to get upset at me"

How? Just HOW did we get here?

The same way lexical drift has happened for literally all of recorded history? Words and their usage change constantly. Getting upset about it is pointless pearl clutching.
