It's all a matter of perspective and context. Being a n00b with BDSM I think non-con, slapping, spanking etc. (ie light violence) is brutal enough to use it as a handle.

When in my SRP I state that I don't like brutality I'm thinking of realistic descriptions of hurting violence. I can do over-the-top brutality if played tongue in cheek.

A good comparison would be to say that although I love shootouts in movies, the shooting sequence at the end of Taxi Driver sickens me to this day.
