Grew up on the Wisconsin Michigan Border. Someday, I'm moving back. Someday. Plenty of things draw me from that direction. Yep.

Why would you want to be further north? Something drawing you there?

Winter here generally sucks. You get rain, snow, sleet, fog, and everything else. I want winter Dammit! Not some pseudo fake winter. I want snow on the ground from November to April. I want 30 F below zero and not counting the wind chill either. Wimps. Gotta add in wind chill to get a decent cool breeze going.

I remember growing up, we had a cookout once in January. Big Ass Fire. Hot Dogs on sticks. We'd take a bite and shove it back in the fire to keep it warm while we chewed.

Did you know spit freezes before it hits the ground at sixty below. Saw it that cold once. Man that was cold. I loved it. You could spit and hear it snap before it hit the ground. Awesome.

Mercury freezes at something like 43 below F. I've seen my share of cracked, ruined thermometers. Ya gotta get the alcohol kind.

Yep. Give me winter. Not this ten degree one day, then up in the fifties the next. No Sir. I want to drive my truck on the lakes and go ice fishing. I want to drill through three feet of ice with the power auger and then use the hand auger to finish off the last foot and a half. That doesn't happen down here. Nope.

Did I mention I like camping in the winter. Down sleeping bags. Campfires. Stew bubbling in the Dutch Oven with dumplings cooking on top. Snowshoes. X-country skis. Back packs filled with warm clothes. Sucking on hard candy. A few good slugs of Wild Turkey before bed. The aroma of damp wool socks drying in the smoke from the fire.

Yeah, that's the life for me.

Winter. Where you wear wool long johns and love em even if they do pick at your skin. Why I remember once.....

X-country in 30 below (that's Celcius, folks!) on Mount Mackay. The sun made our trail a diamond sea. The the snow shine blazed on our faces and one by one, off came the layers - the baklava, the scarves, the mittens, bye, bye shell, sayanora sweater, toodeloo T,

Nothing like getting a suntan in your undies.

*sigh*

Or getting lost in a silent kalidescope of the purest white.

*sigh*

Fucking rain.

Inflating the life raft for when the belly stove melts the ice?

Um. just put a couple of boards under the feet. No ice meltage.

anyway, four feet of ice doesn't melt in a few hours or even all day. perfectly safe.

As for Cealy's idea. Yep. Those little ice shantys get plenty warm and enough space to have some snuggle fun. If the fish aren't biting anyway.

Hiya T!

Hey there Cealy and BGrrl! Hows life?

All this winter talk is making me cold!

LOL It's making me jealous. Rain, fog, net even sleet. :(

And what is a Dutch oven?

Seems like I should know, but I never heard that one before.

:D

Obviously you havent done much ice fishing! It would take a heck of a long time for the stove to heat through the ice. Usually you dont go out unless there is approximately 18-22" of ice! Now I have stamina but...:devil:it could happen! lol

Morning folks!

A dutch oven usually holds about 5 litres usually and can be much larger, its a pot, Id say most of the time made out of cast covered enamel. Normally it isnt more than about 12" wide but very deep with a well fitted lid that usually has a lid with a dip around the edges to hold coal from the fire.

Ringing any bells?
Im sure someone will post a picture of it.
