Tihmmnmmish's Very Laid-Back Summery Poolside Threadcast

Exactly. No need to spell out the pussy part. Put it as puss and leave it. Creates a question: "that could be... yes? no?" double-headed meaning, multiple interpretation, duo-purpose jacket: furry on the outside, slick on the inside.

It won me a quiz at the Amateur Wine Guild rest of the team wanted to put Yeti but I was Captain and insisted against all odds lol question was something like what creature was determined by western scientists to be a fake of several animals skins sewn together?

Captain Annie

that's got a nice ring too

sanctuaryyyyyyyyy I've just been lambasted for making a joke about labia lips which some fem took the wrong way sheeeeeeeesh see what I mean about difference in sense of humour/humor

Phew glad my sanctuary is still here I had to say it because I read you poems but I never comment and although it probably never entered your mind I was still worried that you might think I hadn't bothered!! I would hate to hurt your feelings with ignoring as it's one of my pet hates. Yell at me if you must at least I can yell back but please don't ignore me lol I needed a teensy bit of sanctuary yesterday, you see I read this cool palindrome poem called Doppelganger and thought oh that's different I can do one of those and it went down like a lead balloon even got told it wasn't a palindrome but I don't see how mine is any different apart from being shorter. Sooooo I have got a teensy sulk on lol

another perspective: some people also have limited knowledge on what a palindrome is, or can be. based on Doppelganger, you have achieved the same palindrome variation.

for your info, dictionary.reference.com says:
pal⋅in⋅drome
/ˈpælɪnˌdroʊm/ Show Spelled Pronunciation [pal-in-drohm] Show IPA
Use palindrome in a Sentence
–noun
1. a word, line, verse, number, sentence, etc., reading the same backward as forward, as Madam, I'm Adam or Poor Dan is in a droop.
2. Biochemistry. a region of DNA in which the sequence of nucleotides is identical with an inverted sequence in the complementary strand: GAATTC is a palindrome of CTTAAG.

i find the 'etc' part interesting. it ensures that whole verses, whole poems, whole ANYTHING can be read the same backward as forward.

you wrote a palindrome according to the dictionary meaning of the word.

have faith in yourself Annie. and if in doubt, research is simply right at your fingertips.

feathers are gorgeous, ruffled or not :)

as for humour on here... americans DO NOT UNDERSTAND the english dry sense of humour. i've learnt to always add smilie faces and lots of them. if i crack a joke without a smilie, i can guarantee it's taken in offense. tone is impossible to convey with a dry sense of humour when the recipient doesn't know us. ask me how i know. ;)

Oh well I apologised I suppose the poor girl doesn't know me at all so she had no chance of realising it was a joke a pun on labia/lip. Actually she sent me private mail to tell me she had answered my comment! Suppose she wanted me to know I had been slapped down and make sure I read it. I've been here awhile and I don't go out of my way to make sarky remarks to newbies or anyone for that matter but suppose I better go and make amends and eat humble pie

Okay, so is/was Benny Hill popular there? Or was he an export modified to appeal to americans? Because I loved Benny Hill. And not just the skirts.

My daughter loves watching British sitcoms on PBS. Frankly, I can't. The humor just falls flat to me 99% of the time. My daughter is a huge fan of Monty Python. She got kudos from her one teacher cuz she focused on a song from Monty Python for a music assignment.

you can keep Monty Python... ever since i saw the one where there is projectile vomiting, i can't stand any of them. lol my husband and one of my kids, absolutely loves MP. *shudder*

Benny Hill was great :D we used to watch him years ago here. since i've grown up he's not so funny though ;)

I don't know if they changed Benny Hill for u or not but I never found him particularly funny nor Monty python for that matter especially seeing a film they made and a knight got squashed and all his innards came out!! although they had a cult following and were very popular at one time

Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver

anyone read that book? i'm loving it.

have you read anything else by B Kingsolver that you could recommend to me?

Kingsolver... rings a bell... I think the wife brought home a library book that bore that author's name. Think I thought of peeking but didn't.

Well I haven't watched Benny Hill in some years either, but I hope I haven't grown up too much since then...:D I think men can get away with openly appreciating more juvenilist art at a later age than women can.

I think what makes it harder is that you just have the written, rather than spoken word. May not be so much lack of knowledge, but non-ideal medium
(but its what we've got here)

I've just submitted another Riddle me Ree just for you lol

I just had a chance to take a quick glance last night.
All day today and yesterday evening were all tied up with stuff for getting my son's new apartment ready for the fall semester.:(
I'm hoping to give it some time tomorrow.

I did Google that after you said before and read the gist of what the story is about sounds very interesting and harrowing. What happens to the father if you've got that far?

i don't find 'buck' weird at all.

What I meant by 'weird' was that something that I expended such little effort on succeeded as well as it did. I almost let it go. Felt too short, too simple, too easy, not really poetic... it's like too often we don't trust our instincts so there's the tendency or the belief that working over any idea or sentence or paragraph or line automatically means we're improving it; maybe because it feels so good, hard to keep our hands off, and then all of a sudden there's a big mess all over our hands. Not a bad mess, but there's been a definite loss of potency, reclaimable sure, but sometimes it's hard to know when to observe a Hands Off policy or when to let Nature have its way, quick and simple and complete ignorance of any rules or traditions.

On the other hand, the buck seed was planted a long time ago. So there's also the Letting It Alone In the Ground idea too... So restraint can be a sort of work too.

that's generally why when i write something i write it all out and then walk away from it. i know that during that creation process i can go over the top and mess things up. i'm always VERY careful to ensure i keep the original and each edit, in tact and separate from each other, so i can follow the changes from beginning to end. no idea why i do that, but it's good on many counts.

i'm off for a few days now... to enjoy the sunshine and freeze in the South Island. enjoy yourselves :rose:

Enjoy your vacation. Right now I could use some cool weather - we're getting to 100 F every day!

I usually end up with several versions (all incomplete of course) and if I come back to them after a substantial absence (like I've been doing lately), I see that each version has its own positives and negatives. And not infrequently, what I once viewed as positive comes off quite cringe-worthy now, and what I thought sucked (which was why I started over with a different version) comes off a lot more interesting than it did when I finally let it go. As far as our local Lit purpose goes, I'm one of those fellas who takes their stuff down and tinkers, sticks it away, then later drag it out and touch it here and there and put it back. Or sometimes a different version of something that once was. Always something different to do with it. You know, it's not like I champion only the overwritten. I appreciate the lean too. And actually, if I'm in a mood I think I can do that, make it lean. It's just that when you hear it all the time, and I'm always going to react by going opposite. In a quieter more reasonable mood, I think the mix is the way to go. But in what proportions? Ah... if we knew that...ah yes.

Oh, and one of the qualities of Monty Python that most appealed to me, was that I could watch the same movie a hundred times, and always find something new, something in the background. So it creates curiosity, wondering what you might see the next time...

Also I'm not much of a fan of what's passed off as humor or entertainment these days. I hate reality television. Oh god, I cannot express in adequate words, how much I fucking hate hate hate hate reality tv. And the talent shows. I don't watch American Idol. Or Dancing with the Stars... or... big brother? Oh christ what a waste. What bullshit. Yuck. yuck yuck yuck... give me Johnny Carson and All in the Family reruns any day... or myself. Really all this crap they're producing is to me an indicator that they don't trust peoples' abilities to entertain themselves. And I've always found myself far more entertaining than most of what they put on television, especially lately... bah! the bozos! The creeps! Sonsabitches... okay, sorry, gettin hot in here... gonna go play with some scraps.

We're having about the sweetest summer I can remember in a long time. No complaint on that front.

LOL I love Americas/or Englands etc Next top Model or Americas/Englands got talent ... don't like Big Brother tho but I love those shows that go round trying to find people a new house to buy either in this country or abroad. Get to look round all those fab houses I could never afford. But my very favourite programmes are Without a Trace, Waking the Dead, NCIS and Special Victims Unit. Never been a one for black guys but Ice-T in SVU is hottttt
