I’d say that you are wearing the hat; just not in the conventional manner. (Did you know that in the past, duels were fought over whether a pocket handkerchief was carried or worn? Good thing we’re more flexible about fashion these days.)

Actually, it’s a Randy Newman song from 1972, You Can Leave Your Hat On.
(Which I was about to tell @talikat she could do .)

Joe Cocker just did a cover version. I prefer Newman’s generally wry and sardonic take on the world, shown in most of his songs.
