Strangely, friends of mine who moved to Australia over ten years ago are as cockney now as the day they left.I find it strange how quick someones accent changes when they move, I have friends that emigrated to Australia and they soon got the Aussie twang, and my sister moved up north in the uk and when I hear her speak now it just sounds so different to growing up
Even stranger, I have a friend from Birmingham and when he come round I have to make a conscious effort not to say “aw-roit” (it’s a Brummie thing) - neither me not my accent are from Birmingham.
