The last thing I saw that had that bit about hot water was in Dexter, the fourth season. After he kills someone John Lithgow's character takes a scalding shower. Not sure about the pathology, I'm still going through the season, but anywho, hotter = cleaner apparently.

I believe that may have to do with the body needing to get rid of it's excess adrenaline. While I don't know if it's true, I'd assume that a warmer envioronment stimulates the destruction of adrenaline. Thus bringing the hormone balance back into order.

Two possible reasons. OCD, or desire to destroy and degrade as much DNA evidence as possible.

Actually there's another. He could simply be punishing himself fo killing.
