Oh god this could have been fabulous.

Didn't they make leather dildos back then? A bit like our draught excluders now.

From Eveline

"Where is my maid, John? She has not brought my shoes. I cannot bear these boots any longer, I am tired."

"Mary is upstairs, miss, shall I call her?"

"No, John, if you will be so good as to undo these laces, I can sit more comfortably at the table."

I pushed out my foot. I placed it on a stool. John stooped over it. He began to fumble at the knot. His hand trembled.

"I am afraid, John, you are not quite a ladyā€™s maid, but I think you are very nice all the same."

John chuckled. I gave a little kick out with my foot. It touched his plush breeches.

"Oh, you hurt me, John - no - not with your knuckles - itā€™s the lace at the back of the instep - see here -"

He took my foot in his hand. He touched my ankle.

"Itā€™s just there, John, please rub it a little."

John set to work to rub the ankle. As he rubbed, so I swayed my foot backwards and forwards upon his plush breeches. Something hard seemed to grow up under my foot.

"What have you got in your pocket, John? Is it a flute?"

"No, miss, I am not musical. I donā€™t play any instrument."

What magical times. This would never have happened in Clarke's. :(

I didn't expect such a defeatist attitude from you, Fata. Of course it won't happen unless you make it so. Best hooped crinolines on, and see what happens.

A spin-off, in short, rather than a rival, and a labour of love. But this is their creation, and we would never seek to do anything without their express permission.

Second - the skills of the Literotica boards. We would need graphic designers, website managers, coders, volunteer mods, alpha and beta testers, etc, etc. I worked in web design but briefly and 13 years ago which, in web terms, is about five generations, I know. I am under no illusions that I could do this alone, or even with a handful of people.

But it does seem as if the time is right to merge the healthy and still growing trend for vintage/steampunk with erotica. There are literally thousands of sites out there that deal with crockery, clothes, furniture, etc, but only a tiny handful that focus on Victorian sexual identity - and none remotely participative like Lit.

So what we are seeking here is, firstly, to simply seed the idea - to throw it out there and get some initial and perhaps even some considered responses. Next, we would like ideas for how it might work, because of course it would not, for a variety of reasons, be a simple facsimile of the current site which grew organically over so many years. Third, it is an appeal for volunteers with skills and some time, who would be willing and able to contribute to the project.

So what do you say, assembled Litsters, perverts, kinksters, writers and readers, men, women and every shade in between? Will you join with us to build a brighter, sexier, sepia yesterday?

I'll jump in with the practical requirements or needs:
1. Domain Name - subdomain to Lit? VictoriaLit
2. Hosting - where to host and who's paying for it?
3. Software to run the forum?
4. Will this be by invite only? Linked to the users on Lit perhaps?

Costs and other considerations:
- Domain Names are fairly cheap, they get more expensive if you choose more years built in (the more years, the cheaper per year) and even more expensive if you want ownership to remain private...that is not accessible by using WhoIs.

- Many of the hosting sites offer free forum software if you host your domain on their site. There is usually a monthly fee.

- If someone...anyone? decides to host it on their own or has a server farm with a boatload of bandwidth for pictures, videos and other traffic, you can get the PHB Bulletin Board software, the platform that lit is based on for free -- it's open source and you download it here: https://www.phpbb.com/. Once it's up and running -- that is you get some security in place and all the bells and whistles, for example, emoticons (there are a ton of them out there), login and registration rules, colors, a logo (like Literotica's up top here). This could be done by someone who knows PHP well. I don't. You can also get it for free on godaddy if you decide to host your site there. Which I would suggest.

please don't get my hopes up...

please don't get my hopes up...

OK. So, at one time I had hosted a site similar to this. It was a few spin-offs from another board called Fucked Company, which is still out there somewhere. It was by invite only and therefore I was more concerned about security than anything else. And since everyone on the forum were friends, I didn't get much in the way of hassle and the board didn't need moderating.

This isn't in the really hard to do pile. It just takes a bit of work up front. Since we already have a model and some rules and some FAQs and the blessings from Manu and Laurel, then it should be a little bit easier. I just don't know how to modify the PHP to make it a go. I lost touch with my partner on the other board and then he passed away.

Many fora out there ask for donations to the people hosting it, because it does cost money. Or they have tiered memberships...with donations tied to the memberships.

I just looked on godaddy -- the domain VictorianLit.com is available and godaddy's having a sale on the domain names and the hosting.

because my hope for it happening died a while ago and i don't wanna get them back up

OK...but...like I said...all we need is a few sheckels to buy the domain and the hosting...

And...get someone...who knows PHP to modify the free software.

Did you like the logo? On the right track? Wrong track?
