I've written a few
Thank you. i've read your "Rhythm and the Blue Line: 12 Part Series".
I read "Lost in the Woods" back when it was in the contest.
I'm reading "Christmas Creep" now. I think I must have read it before because is seems very familiar.
Hope you enjoyed them. Yes, CC was done for a contest so you may have read it then.
If my previous post was disjointed, it was because my daughter was on my lap and tired, so I only had one hand free to type.
That's not the best reason to type with one hand, you know that right?
A_ I'm sorry for calling the author an asshole said:Take it from someone who has much experience when it comes to apologizing, if you are truly sorry for something you did or said, don't apologize and try to justify your action in the same breath. It makes the apology ring hollow.
Fair enough. OK, I'm not sorry, but the author is forgiven for recommending a story that contained a first page tailor made to upset me after I explained that I wanted exactly the opposite.
More pointedly than that, Lady V, the OP only specifies what she wants to see in one male character and one female character. It doesn't give any requirements at all for what any other characters should be/do--nor does it say there shouldn't be any other characters (or any actual story).
Um, no, it's not what you posted. You referred to male characters in the plural:
"you asked for stories that described male characters"
So, no it isn't the same point I made. The OP only specifies what is wanted in one male and one female character. Don't you even read your own posts?
And I think that finding male characters just as described would be finding blah cardboard cutouts. Good characters have characteristics, both good and bad.
Yes, you are arguing with me, you ditzy dingbat. My point was/is that she only specified what she wanted in one male and one female character in the story, and you referred to what she wanted in male characters (plural), which destroys the whole point. God, you're brainless.
I said I was in a bad place mentally with regard to men. I asked specifically for stories that would help me get out of that place. The story recommended started with a sexual assault perpetrated by a loathsome male.
If I said I was a vegetarian, would you recommend a steak stuffed with delicious mushrooms and say, you just have to get past the steak?
It never ceases to amaze me how this forum thing works. The OP creates a thread, and some people feel obligated to come in here and post snarky, judgmental replies, then go off-topic to bash each other over non-issues. I've had some of the same thing happen to me before, and it's really quite annoying. If you're not on board with the OP's topic for the thread, cruise on and don't pollute the thread with your vitriol. If you want to have a pissing match with someone, go start your own pissing match thread and don't sully others' efforts with your personal issues. How ridiculous and juvenile.
To your original request, OP, I would humbly offer my first story, The Sisters Of Mercy (linked in my sig, I'm lazy). The hero is not broken, just in a bit of a pickle, and the sex is wholesome and life-affirming.
Just don't accidentally click on the other story, or you'll come back here and call me an asshole.
May you find a better mental and spiritual place soon.
Hey, I'm not a fan of Lovecraft68's, but you are in the wrong here, Little, and you do owe him an unadulterated apology for your over-the-top knee-jerk reaction. No one here knew a thing about how you feel about much of anything, so saying he made a recommendation just to upset you is off the wall and a little idiotic. What you asked for in a male character doesn't imply you didn't want a story wrapped around it. A story requires a dilemma. You didn't say there couldn't be side characters who aren't this mythical perfect(ly dull and simplistic) man you want to read or that there couldn't be unpleasant dilemmas in the story to actually make it a story.
People here have been trying to respond to your demand for tailored stories. Stop biting their hands. Lovecraft68 doesn't need to be forgiven for trying to recommend a story to you--but, quite possibly, you need to be spanked for your ungracious reaction to someone trying to respond to your "order" for the stories you want to read. You only described what you wanted to see in one male and one female character, not in the story itself or in other characters.
From what I recall, you asked for stories that described male characters that met your requirements. You didn't say that the stories should be tailor made not to upset you. If you want a Cinderella story, and a story that won't upset you, you're really on the wrong site. To call LC an AH because you couldn't handle his description of a creep who was only a blip in the story was way out of line to begin with.
