Yeah. I played NCAA division 1....was very brutal at times. But I wouldn't trade it for the world....or for a fully functioning ankle. Learned a lot. Do you have a tub where you're staying?
 
Damn girl! I think we're like... division 3. I go to a very small school.

Nope. I'm in dorms. So we just have icky showers.
 
My best suggestion is to ice down your most sore muscles and worst bruises. Stretch often and thoroughly. And before training, take a towel and toss it in the microwave and then wrap it around your most sore and tight muscles for like ten minutes. Closest replacement to a heating pad. Rules of thumb mostly.

Warm up, stretch
Cool down, stretch

Stretch upon waking up and before going to bed

Ice pulls out swelling and reduces soreness, best for directly after training.

Heat loosens up tight muscles, so before practice or training.

If it's been particularly hard fitness and you "feel the burn" a hell of a lot....don't spend large amounts of time resting. I know it's kind of counter intuitive, but the burn comes from lactic acid build up in your muscles. If you just let the muscles sit motionless, the build up stays in there and is actually worse. So the day after something hard, do a light jog or something. Don't kill yourself, but keep those sore muscles moving so they don't get stiff and even more painful.

Those are just some quick tips I picked up along the way. I'm not sure how long you've been doing it or if you guys are fortunate enough to have trainers. Hopefully this helps :)

I've only been doing rugby for a semester, but I've been at sports my whole life.
I just have really bad back and shoulder muscles, so every time I go in for a tackle, my back dies a bit more.
I went to get a massage not too long ago and the masseuse thought I got into bar fights because my back muscles are so tight.
Same thing, really. Rugby, and bar fights.

Hahaha well, it kinda is :p When I was playing soccer, I was probably big enough for rugby. I was bench pressing my body weight (about 140) and leg pressing more than 600 pounds. I'm 20 pounds lighter now and still the same height :p I'm more fit in certain ways. I can do a butt load more body weight exercises. I do more pull ups and such than I did then. But I still think I would get pounded into the ground. I could probably be okay with that, though. I'm fast, feisty, and a lot more competitive than I'd like to admit when it comes to sports. So if you want tips on how to make your back stronger, let me know :) I'll chat with you.
 
Haha, I'm tiny and not in shape at all and I'm still alive. It's a lot less intimidating once you're actually in a game... You just... get into a mindset and it's loads and loads of fun.
I found out a few days ago that our hooker from last semester (Yep. My position is called hooker) isn't playing this semester so I'm basically going to be hooking every game for all 80 minutes... and the most I've ever played as hooker was like... 20. We have a game on Saturday and I'm totally pumped and terrified at the same time.

Hehehe playing a whole match will be rough the first few times you do it, lily, but you'll get used to it quick. Plus you'll get better a lot faster because you're getting more game experience.

All I have is an occasionally loud roommate. I don't want to grow up.

I just discovered a wonderful bruise on my arm/shoulder. The way hooking works and binding onto other people tends to... pop blood vessels. It give my shoulder a nice, speckled, painless bruise.

I don't bruise easily. My teammates got very upset when I turned to them like 3 months into rugby and said, "GUYS I GOT MY FIRST BRUISE."
They all glared at me.

I don't bruise all that easily either. I have found a specific toy that will consistently mark me, though. It's a stingy little fucker lol. But it does leave pretty bruises. And like I said, let me know if you're wanting to get to know Maryland a bit better. I'll point you in the right directions.
