What Am I Doing Wrong?

We all know what we're trying to say and numerous times that's exactly what we see as our mind/eyes tricks us into believing that's what's on the page
.
I cannot tell you how many times I've writen something like, "he sucked my cock into him mouth..." or "I turned to face his and demanded and explination..." and I never catch it because I know what word is supposed to be there and so that's what I see. It nearly always takes someone else's pointing it out to me for me to see the word for the typo that it is.

Our editors are our unbiased eyes on our "works of art". If someone would have had the balls to tell Picaso that he sucked and maybe should find a better style, his paintings might be worth more than money today.

PMing management: I never saw in any of the FAQ pages and review things who to PM. How would I go about it?
Do you keep clicking the pending link, by chance? I've been told that sends your story back to the end of the queue.

I've heard that too. Why would it do that?

Because that's the way some stupid programmer wrote it? Who knows what was specified, and how (s)he interpreted that spec? This board is not a bespoke system - it is using standard off-the-shelf software, warts and all.

*Sighs* ...

Yet another example of what I am going through LB. I, too, have been fussing with a piece that has been edited, and edited, and edited. I have a VE who has been most gracious to look over my piece this last time, who i feel, has done an impeccable job. I, unfortunately, have had the same thing come up all 3 times. Check spelling, etc, grammatical errors. Well, all i say is this. Its been viewed 12 times since i resubmitted it. And not by me. If my story wasn't any good... who's reading the damn thing?? Some one getting off on my story and not letting me take credit for it? (lil outburst of frustration..very sorry)

I will wait and see how long this one takes to get looked at, and if no results, I do have to say I'd have to switch sites with my pieces. I've seen alot worse on here than my piece. Spelling errors not checked, or corrected, and even grammar. So, I ask this... why am i being singled out?

So LB, i do understand your frustration, and believe me i sympathize

MissX and LB,

My only recommandation now is to send a PM to Laurel, not a mail, a PM. Clickhere and then click on the link that says "send a private message" and explain to her that your story has been checked and rechecked and re-rechecked for problems by VE and they all said it was fine.

It could also be a glitch and your story has been lost in the ether and is not even on the "pending" list on Lit's side. Don't forget to say the title of your story so she knows which story to look for.

Good luck to both of youl

Yikes. . . so many replies.

Okay, I've not yet sent the PM, but will soon do so.

The editor I got helped me with some matters I would not have otherwise known, not have otherwise considered, and a few spelling errors. For the thing I most did on the edits I'm not certain they have a rejection message (it involves paragraph spacing, which is something I hadn't even remotely considered and would be a very valid reason for kicking it back).

The problem I'm coping with at the moment isn't another rejection, only had the one so far, but the time on pending. I will PM to see if there is anything causing problems.

BTW, this whole experience was actually the inspiration for a new little story I fired off, but I'm going to wait until this one is approved before I drop this bomb.

There is no "pending" link anymore. Once it's submitted, you can't access it.

Ah, it's been rejected again, with the even less descript "This cannot be posted at this time." I've tried the PM hoping to find out why it cannot be.

I'm at a loss... I read it... couldn't find anything in it that was too objectionable...

I am wondering... I shouldn't even say this... but could it have to do with the political views of the piece?!?

Oh to hell with it, I'll just let the cat out of the bag (no pun intended Selna ;) ). The story is Al Gore having sex with a hippie.

Now, can someone tell me, please, is this getting rejected because Al Gore is off limits. Please, just tell me. I'm not even going to raise a fuss if it is. I just want to know if I'm wasting my time trying to get it approved or not.

I honestly don't know... truly only Laurel could tell you for sure...

I have never seen an Al Gore story. I HAVE see a Laura Bush story.

I can't imagine that it's the politics, but at the moment, I can't think of anything else that's preventing it from being posted, especially with that sort of vague "this cannot be posted at this time" rejection!?

Laurel has a right to reject what she wants out of hand--it's her site. But I should think at least an honest reason would be forthcoming.

Maybe you should get one of the other editors here to look at it: RogueLurker, CopyCarver, LadyCibelle... it's a very short piece, so just direct them to this thread and ask them if THEY see anything else objectionable... I sure didn't!

Without having seen the story but knowing that Selena would have caught something if it was against Lit's rule, I'd say the political climate could be the culprit.

Even though we've seen plenty of stories that we might, at one point or another, have found objectionnable, as Selena says it's still Laurel's prerogative to reject any stories she deems unfit.

Now, lets just hope she'll reply to your query LB and give you a clear answer as to why it was rejected.

The PM reply she sent leads me to believe she has not, herself, read the story. I have, per her request, resubmitted it along with a disclaimer that the events in the story are 100% fiction. I'll let you know how it turns out.

It's still pretty weird to request such disclaimer. I don't read the celebs' cat so forgive me if I sound dumb, but does each story have to to have such disclaimer on it? Could it be possible that your story had been rejected because you hadn't put the disclaimer?

I don't know, but, I just think that anyone reading the celebs' cat would need to be pretty stupid to think it happened for real don't you think?

I agree... does seem strange...

Are Al Gore's people like Disney people--rabid dogs that come hunt you down whenever a possible hint of parody takes place?! I can't imagine it...

I'm far from expert either. The only story I ever edited for celebs did indeed run with a disclaimer attached, but I assumed it was boilerplate attached by Lit after the fact. The one that seems to appear again and again:

"DISCLAIMER:

The stories in the "Celebrity" section of Literotica are all fictional parodies - none are true, nor are they approved of by the celebrities named in the stories. Authors write these fictitious stories about famous people for the same reason that Larry Flynt made fun of Jerry Falwell, because they can. The Supreme Court of the United States, the country where this site is located, has ruled that parodies involving famous people are perfectly and totally legal under the United States Constitution. The specific case law on this was decided in the case of "Hustler Magazine, Inc. et al. v. Jerry Falwell" in 1988. No harm is intended toward the celebrities featured in these stories, but they are public figures and in being so, they must accept that they are fair target for parodies by the public. We believe in the first amendment, and more broadly, in the basic principle of free speech and this section may push the boundaries of that principle, but the United States Supreme Court has approved of this type of material. We believe that the Supreme Court was correct in their decision."

Beyond that, I don't 0.3% of a clue.

I sit now in the waning moments of July, knowing that August shall come, and my story, which was submitted in June, will sit on pending still, with now 30 views. No point to this, just lamenting.

It remains that the site owners still control all content - rightfully in my opinion and if they happen to be Al Gore fans - they have the right to refuse publication of this story.

How important is it that the story is about Al Gore? You could change the name to Gerry Brown - and it would be both believable and Likely.
