What are you reading, SRP Lounge Dwellers?

You really do deserve some sort of monetary reward, because I'm not into vampires. Your description makes it sound really appealing. I like a bit of mystery, and the tie-in to the heroine's personal life is what makes me curious. Don't shut-up! LOL if I start it one of these centuries, we'll have to make time to gab more about it.

Any time.. God I feel like a right dork lol..But yeah..get it, and you will love it , I promise.:rose:

That's Alana, FF.

She's awesome.

Oh sure, he says that now after hitting on all the other women on the site..tuts..TUTS. * and I say that hiding and laughing*

But thank you LI..I'll remind you you said that every time you try argue with me.:D

*Grins* Beat him up... then nurse him back to health. (I'd pay to watch that happen.)

Also, read The Inquisitor's Manual. Impossible diction. Very dreamlike and interesting progression.

This is my vane attempt to keep me from posting dirty nasty shit in here and endlessly derailing your thread.

The author is Antonio Lobo Antunes?

It is. The diction is extremely challenging and disjointed. Surreal.

But fight through it.

Email sent, hot stuff. Before I even posted to you last.

Thanks, babe.

And I'm reading the reviews on Amazon. I want to read this SO badly. I fear poor Nabokov is going to get ditched.

Please don't be offended that I didn't reply further, but I didn't want to derail what is a really interesting thread. But yeah, I'm derailing it in my mind and you got the job FF as camera lady..Just make sure you get my good side. LI won't be seen.

Another book I read recently was Rebecca's Tale by Sally Beauman.

I'm a fan of the old black and white movie Rebbecca, with Laurence Olivier, and I loved the chance to know more about BEFORE it all happened in the movie.. And the book Rebecca's Tale gave me that. It's a prequel of sorts i suppose.
It's romantic, but yet not a romance. The English is sublime, and setting is coastal, like in the movie years before, and it just fills my craving for mystery and romance. Lovely book.

Okay, I love you already, just so you know. If this were the real world, I'd be working on making you my new best friend. ;D Don't worry, I am so not offended.

I've been meaning to see Rebecca for AGES! Ever since I read a biography about Vivien Leigh's life, I've wanted to get into Olivier's films. You now have me inspired to not only read the book, but also to create an old movies thread here on Lit. Yeah, I feel like Pale Fire is going to get shafted, as soon as I have time to read and play again.

Also, it isn't a book per se but Jude Deveraux is an extremely talented writer for anyone who likes vanilla romances which I adore! Her genres mainly stick to the medieval(did I spell that right, don't think so) times but there are a few books that tend to be in current settings as well.

The flowers in the attic series / dollanganger series was the first series of books I ever read, I was 10 at the time and was instantly hooked and have since actually collected a fair few Virginia Andrews or v.c.andrews books and every now and then I go back and read them over again.

my-story-a-child-called-it-the-lost-boy-a-man-named-dave.jpg

A CHILD CALLED 'IT': Dave Pelzer's story is of a child beaten and starved by his emotionally unstable, alcoholic mother: a mother who played tortuous, unpredictable games that left one of her three sons nearly dead. No longer considered a son, or a boy, but an 'it', Dave had to learn how to play these games in order to survive. His bed was an old army cot in the basement and when he was allowed food it was scraps from the dogs' bowl. Throughout, Dave kept alive the dream of finding a family who would love and care for him. This is an inspirational look at the horrors of child abuse and the steadfast determination of one child to survive despite the odds.

THE LOST BOY: The harrowing but ultimately uplifting true story of Dave's journey through the foster-care system in search of a family who will love him.

A MAN NAMED DAVE: The gripping conclusion to this inspirational trilogy. With extraordinary generosity of spirit, Dave takes us on a journey into his past. At last he confronts his father and ultimately his mother. Finally, Dave finds the courage to break the chains of the past and learn to love, trust and live for the future

Providing an overview of key religious concepts and exploring Wicca's place within a predominantly Christian society, this book details Wiccan beliefs and reveals the how and why of this burgeoning religion. Beginning with the nature of Deity and how it manifests itself, this book explores how practitioners of Wicca relate to the Divine. It investigates the evolution of the soul and discusses morality within the bounds of this loosely structured nondogmatic religion, as well as sexuality and gender roles, issues of identity and personal discovery, and the effects of Wicca-inspired transformations.

Rayne, I've read all the Dave Pelzers books also. Stunning story, and level of cruelty is mind boggling. Amazing if disturbing read because it's true.

Yes it was certainly one of those books I couldn't put down I was riveted and repulsed all at the same time.

Another good one that I read like within 24hours was called

Not Without My Sister by Kristina Jones, Celeste Jones, Juliana Buhring.

ISBN-10: 0007248067
ISBN-13: 978-0007248063

The devastating account of three sisters, torn apart and forced to suffer abuse and exploitation at the hands of a community that robbed them of their childhood. They reveal three lives, separate but entwined, that have experienced unspeakable horror, unrelenting loyalty and unforgettable courage. From as early as 3 years old, Juliana, Celeste and Kristina were treated by their 'guardians' as sexual beings. They received love letters and sexual advances from men old enough to be their grandfather, and were forced into abusive relationships that barely went unhidden. They were denied access to formal schooling, forced to wander the streets begging for money, and were mercilessly beaten for 'crimes' as unpredictable as reading an encyclopaedia. Finally, realizing that the cult's leader, David Berg, was a false prophet, their mother escaped with Kristina, leaving Celeste behind with their father. Juliana, his daughter by another woman, also remained behind. Celeste finally broke free after falling pregnant and realising that the child she was carrying would be subjected to the same fate if she could not find the courage to escape. Juliana was the last to leave, staying behind long enough to look after her younger siblings and feed Celeste information from the inside. Now the three sisters have finally come together to reveal in full and horrific detail their existence within a group that has destroyed the lives of so many. Their stories intertwine throughout the years, revealing a community spread throughout the world whose legacy of anorexia, depression, drug abuse, suicide and even murder are impossible to erase. Lives that follow parallel paths are ripped apart and painstakingly mended with a shared strength that finally enabled the sisters to free themselves from the shadows of their past.

Little tid bit I was once told and I should probably google to find out if its true first but I am in lazy mode...but Virginia Andrews is actually deceased and V.C.Andrews is another writer working from old notes....could be urban legend but hey I thought I would share.

right now I'm reading the confederation of Valor by Tanya Huff, after that Star Wars: Tales of the Old Republic: Alliance by Sean Williams.

The last sexy thing I read was: Vampire Trinity by Joey W. Hill

Yep, I've heard that urban legend as well. Still, love the writers work though, if she is indeed deceased her predecessor is doing a fantastic job on keeping the different books on the same topic she's had them on.

At the moment, The Livind Dead a collection of zombie based short stories, then a bit of non-fiction called Collapse that looks at various societies/empires in history and how they fell.

V.C. Andrews is Virginia Andrews. The family worked with a ghostwriter named Niederman (sp) who wrote the later Casteel family books. I'm sure there is some info at the author's (VCA) site.
