Whilst other's replies will be appreciated too of course that is some great advice. Thanks a lot!

I was mostly worried about safety and some household things not being appropriate; like I kept reading that you have to use special bondage rope as normal ropes are too rough and will chafe but thinking about it on the 'adult toy' websites their advice is probably tainted with a wish to sell you junk .

As rope goes I'm a big fan of cotton ropes. They are soft, easy to clean, very strong, and come in a variety of thicknesses. To find them I'd skip hardware stores and go to a fabric store, ask them where the cord for furniture piping is. Oh and make sure the rope is comfortable for you to tie and LONG. I'd buy segments of about 10 yards and some that are 4 yards for small work to start with. The more variety you have in lengths the more things you can try.

As always wash everything before using it.
