Have you, by any chance, read Reading Lolita in Tehran? If not, it's a very good book about a group of women in Iran forming an illegal, well, book club is probably the best term, to read and discuss western culture through primarily (as I recall) famous western female authors.

Wintersmith - Terry Pratchett

Hey, Blue! That's the last book I finished! (Reading an Ngaio Marsh mystery right now; there's no butler, so I can't guess whodunit.)

A fellow Pratchett reader ... excellent :rose: ! I think he's awesome, I love his ironic humour.

Yeah, although his sense of humor can get a bit cloying if you aren't in the mood for it. (How many times can you read about Rincewind running from danger screaming "ohshitohshitohshitohshitohshitohshitohshit" and still laugh out loud?) But he mixes up the cast of characters from one book to the next enough that it's always worth picking up the next one.

He and Niel Gaiman (sp?) co-wrote a book called Good Omens that was one of the best I've read in years.

I was thinking of starting The Black Company by Glen Cook next.
I like gritty sword and sorcery fantasy books. :)

You know that Cook is a local boy?

I've read all the Black Company books, and all the Garrett books except maybe the latest.

I tend to scan over the repetitive bits  ... I have a really bad habit of scanning rather than reading at times. I'm always impatient to get to the good bits.

I don't think I've read the "Good Omens", I'll look out for it the next time I'm in the bookshop. Thank you for mentioning it. It's always good to get a recommendation :)

I tried the first book in his new series. I spent two weeks wading through it, and only got to page 126 before I gave up.

You did say something about it in PM I believe. I'll let you know how well I do when I get to it. :)

No, haven't seen it yet. Someone told me it was (even) gloomier than the Black Company series, so I haven't been looking forward to it. The Black Company was certainly worth reading, but the mood did go down hill in the last couple books.

I though the last Garrett book was back up to earlier standards after a couple that weren't so entertaining. I think Cook may just get tired of some of the continuing plots and characters after a while, and lets his attitude show through in his writing.

Is there a St Louis Sci Fi society? I know there's a con over in Collinsville every year, but I've never gone.

Last book i read was Ice Station by Matthew Riley

If you havent heard of him or read the book i suggest give it a go.
Its a hardcore fast paced action story with a bit of foul language(just a warning for ppl who are offended ).

There are 2 other book in this series called Area 7 and SCARECROW.
if you decide to read these books read them in this order

Ice Station
Area 7
SCARECROW

He has also written other books:-

Contest
Temple
7 Ancient Wonders

He is a brilliant writer and cant wait for his next book to come out

Dragons of the Dwarven Depths. New to the Dragonlance series and written by the original trilogies authors, Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman.

Can't wait for the movie coming out this fall.

Rant by Chuck Palahniuk

White Teeth by Zadie Smith
Immaculate taste as ever, darling.

Rough Magic: A Biography of Sylvia Plath by Paul Alexander

The Pursuit of Happiness by Douglas Kennedy He is an American author and I don't usually read fiction but he is quite good. I've read most of his books and have always enjoyed them. Very light and enjoyable reading.

My last book I read all the way through was: The Lone Ranger and Tonto Fistfight In Heaven by Sherman Alexie......I loved it. Also that was his inspiration for the screenplay for Smoke Signals.

Now, I'm reading: Ten Little Indians....
