(Thank you - I thought a bottom was a submissive all of the time. I have much learning to do.)
Bottom is commonly used to refer to the physical side of BDSM on the recieving end. It can be used to generically refer to bottoms, submissives, etc. Submissive adds in the mental and emotional aspects as well, and, again, can be used generically to describe bottoms, submissives, etc.
These are all very broad definitions, and represent how I see these words, but they are pretty commonplace ideas on those words.
When I talk about bottoms in relation to me, I am referring to women that may be submissive, but are not mine, and the interaction I have with them is Top/bottom, nothing else. They may be submissives or slaves, but in the context of their interaction with me, they are a bottom, and I am a Top.
