At the risk of being too nosy (in which case, just ignore this), I've wondered about the appeal of the red bottom on Louboutins. Is there something inherently sexy about the color, or is it a status symbol of some sort? Or should I have watched "Sex and the City" when I was younger?

I recently read a fascinating book titled 'Women From The Ankle Down' by Rachelle Bergstein that discussed the evolving design and appeal of women's high heels via films, personalities, and designers.

It described how new materials helped heels rise and even the introduction of Louboutins iconic red sole.

Being an ardent admirer of women's high heels, I enjoyed it and recommend it to high heel lovers and plan to reread it later myself.
