Words or sentences that tick you off...

I cannot, cannot, do text speak. Even when texting.
When I got my first ever phone I tried, I really did, but found myself going back through and adding all the missing letters and punctuation
And when I get messages written that way I find myself unable to read them properly as I'm so cross that someone who took the time to text me couldn't take half a minute more and do it properly

I think there is a place for it, in emergencies and when time is of the essence but it has no place, no place at all, in anything that is trying to resemble actual writing.

Blame my Britishness!

:D

I'm a little relieved to know I'm not the only anal person when it comes to using my words even in text messages.

In college I have seen those fresh from HS turn in papers written in text shorthand. Not just one or two but the whole paper written with u r luv and more. Really sad.

It is sad! And those kids and even some adult now are using the same non-words in a professional environment.

Liberry.

No, it's LIBRARY.

Okay, so that is more a mispronunciation, but it pisses me off.

I also hate when someone IMs "how r u"
It's an instant block.

R and U are letters not words.

I'll let it slide if it's a text message, but it still grates on my nerves.

*Hugs*

No you are absolutely right. There is no place for it.

I'd hug Sia but we don't know each other. So I will wave and angrily agree with her.

Agreed - if Brit can blame her Britishness, then I'll blame my Aussieness. I thought it may have been my age, but seeing you are all much younger than me, then I'm happy that it may also be to do with pride in language. It really really hurts me to use text speak - I tend to just not be able to press that "R" or "U" button - ouch.....

The only time I use it is when it has to be really quick as in an emergency or if my message has exceeded the character limit allowed (not an uncommon occurrence with my verbosity  )

That is irritating.

I thought it was ridiculous when reading the directions for my online classes, especially for the discussion forums that the instructor had to include a clause about using text speak.

It took a week before the astonishment in reading those boards to start to wear off. I mean... It was just awful!
