Worst story by how it made you feel

dear jenny,

QUOTE jenny You are very wrong, Scouries. I do not dislike most of the new writers

You either misread, misinterpreted or purposely misconstrued my post about you.

I mentioned two complaints – one a minor irritant – your rudeness to new posters; and secondly – this a major one – your long term and continuing insulting of our readers. (I also will admit to not liking your AVATAR).

As to your “story feedback” itself – it’s never bothered me. In fact I’m very sure you do not dislike most of the new writers. I’ll leave it to ace to evaluate your advice’s usefulness. As far as I’m concerned (and to your credit) you at least aren’t one of these fawning LITEROTICANS who post glowing comments by the thousands, their true purpose clear.

Just stop bashing our readers! they’re not assholes …. Or stupid wankers… or any of the hundreds of derogatory terms you reputedly use to describe them. If this reader abuse was coming from one of the many experts who never put a story up on LIT I’d understand it. They can’t write so they carp endlessly to hide their inability to produce. Fuck em as far as I’m concerned.

But from someone who puts up stories it’s inexcusable. LOVE your readers young lady. Take them into your arms … cuddle them …give them your warmth … Please…

My readers don’t want me to. The message they send is quite clear. STAY JIM, STAY...

Well, since you brought it up . . . no I don't comment on stories without reading them--I comment on your and Jenny's lame, uninformed advice from time to time when you give dumb advice (e.g., "third person POV is the only sophisticated POV"--from you, and Jenny's ever laughable mixing up of POV and tense and her propensity to jump on someone's spelling ability with words like "definately," or both of your smug instructions on how to write erotica, when neither one of you writes it).

(The only thing worse than no advice is bad advice.)

Well, actually, you do. I have absolutely no problem with 1st person POV and I have NEVER said 3rd person is more 'sophisticated'; in fact the reverse. 1st person is far more difficult to handle given both the limitations and dangers it imposes. When handled well by accomplished practioners it can be extremely effective both in erotica and mainstream fiction.

The point I try to make - and you blather against without reading a story - is that those that use it without experience often swing between a 'What I did on my holidays' diary style and the 'let me tell you what I did next' approach.

First person is very difficult to handle well - you are great at it. Given the limitations of the forums, the best advice that can be given to neophytes is to start in 3rd person, spread your wings, then branch out in trying to transfer creative writing knowledge to experiment and branch out.

If you like, my take on 1st person is it must all come from the head.

Well said, El. And if you need examples of SR71's divisive remarks without reading stories, I have them bookmarked.

". . . 3rd person is much more sophisticated for basic storytelling than the 1st person style we learnt in Junior School to report what we did on summer break. 'I went to the cabin. I swam in the lake every day, I was sad when we came home.'"

'Nuff said other than to repeat that the only advice worse than no advice is bad advice.

And, once again, no I actually don't comment on stories without reading them. (This is just one of those insidious, brainless lies you keep repeating, Elfin.) What I do is comment on specific points of writing/grammar/punctuation/word usage/ style/format where they are located and can be discussed in isolation as well as point to your and Jenny's utterly ridiculous half-baked writing theories when you are commenting on stories and telling their authors how erotica should be written--when neither of you write it yourself.

You are correct. I am rude. But as anyone who actually reads the threads, It's all in fun.

You are correct. I am brutal to new writers who post unreadable shit, then ask for glowing comments. I tell them the truth. If they don't like it, tough.

I don't like you or anything you've written. If you don't like it. TOUGH. I never asked for either your opinion or that of any of your many Alts.

Would that you had spent that time actually learning about writing and how to use a dictionary (before ragging on what other writers are doing)--or at least writing an erotica story yourself rather than just pratt-fall low, deprecating "humor."

Yes, "definately."

And, yes, Scouries defined you in spades on this thread, Jenny. But I didn't bother to get into that until you and Elfin started up your brainless sister act on me (again).

You'd dearly love for me not to comment on story writing at all here--what it does mostly is show how unconstructive and lame your "knowledge" is. As Scouries notes, you only post criticism to slam writers and readers and you both do it to claim a superiority that neither of you possesses. And, laughably, you choose to try to maintain that superiority without posting any erotica of your own worth spit. That's certainly the height of arrogance.

Jenny_Jackson and Scouries do post shit stories. I post shit stories too, so I know a pile of shit when I see it.

As I've said, you never read anything and take me out of context.

In 'basic storytelling' English teachers all over the country go grey trying to teach their students to stop writing 1st person diaries and try to adopt creative writing approaches.

My comment was in reference not to 1st person in narrative but in relation to the biggest problem we all face in learning to write fiction.

It is a snare for those who are not as talented as you, and you consistently pull up the drawbridge as you are arrogant enough to have no wish to understand the basics and you pose falsely as a god of literature who can crap on us mere mortals - despite not earning a living wage from your pen.

|Your knowledge is impressive: your writing is pretty average and forgettable.

Have you started a game about quantity over quality? It wouldn't surprise me.
