Writer's Advice

Listening to music definitely helps. FM mentioned carrying a notepad and pen/pencil... combine listening to music and scribbling in a notebook and things start coming together like you wouldn't believe.

It doesn't have to be about anything in particular... could be a bunch of squiggly lines.

But you might find enough inspiration there to take the hammer and bust up that damn block.

Just thinking about this, Hello Shy:), do you think you might be bored by what you're trying to write??

It may be it's not challenging or satisfying enough for you any longer... ? Just a thought. It's what happened to me, actually is still happening a little.

Maybe a different genre would help? A fresh start in a new direction, something, something. I don't know.

I'll shut up now:rolleyes:

I am actually struggling through a bad bout of writer's block at the moment and it's not pretty.

I can only echo what people have said before me. One major aspect that has an effect on me is what is happening in real life. If it's been a hectic week with non-stop pressure, my writing does a downward spiral.

I think my solution is a little warped though. If I can't write anything in real life I start writing on Lit because it's fun writing. So if you see me posting a truckload in a week, you can bet I'm hating the press release I have to write

I try and take my mind completely off it. Writing is a creative thing and I find that if you go and do something else, completely unrelated, that is still creative; it will spur the writing aspect. Play music, bake a cake, do some gardening, paint. Anything creative other than writing. When I sit back down at my desk: voila! An idea ;) It's about texture, colour, feeling something between your fingers, listening to the wind rustling through the trees ... now go write it.

/wanders off to go find something creative to do

I agree with much of what has been written.

Dont stress, go with the flow and it will pass.

I was in writers block when I arrived on Lit, Yeishia asked me to do Vassal at first I said. "No Way I'm blocked." She said "I need a real life Domme, jump in try, write anything. I need a writer." Then she pulled out the fuckin friend card.

I did just that, jumped in and simply wrote.

Now my block is gone and I have picked up a couple of threads with a supportive co writer.

If you write with people you trust they will help nurture you through your block.

I would advise that you choose one thread to start and work it through with your co writer.

In my opinion to totally stop writing is certain death to your creativity. I found that out the hard way.

Good Luck!

We have spoken Shy *wraps her arms around you* You know how very much your writing inspires me to try and improve mine. :rose:

Sorry guys, I didn't mean to not reply. I finally have some headspace to respond. :)

ScifiFangirl: free-writing sounds like a great idea. I suppose some part of me is afraid of the words that will be put on paper...if that makes sense. But it is a good exercise to get into the habit of. So once I found my confidence I will definitely be taking this one up. Thank you :)

Ahren: You are very right; we are all our own worst critics...I suppose it all comes down to perfectionism for me. It is something I need to conquer to find joy in writing again. Thank you for your opinion :)

TearsoftheWorld: Ahhh...yes...music. How could I have forgotten that? I also found looking at art was a great source of inspiration. Excellent suggestion, thank you :) And yes...if this block doesn't fall soon, I know several people who will be hammering at me with hammers. lol.

adamzapple: No shutting up :p I like your opinions, so don't be shy to voice them. Hmmmm...I could be bored, maybe. I am not sure. That is why starting something new does sound appealing. But I don't wish to start something new when I have stories that I love still in progress. *laughs at herself* An odd thought pattern, I know. But it is something to think about, so thank you for voicing your thoughts. It is good to see you writing here too, I am sorry our story didn't work out :(

DarkEmpress: To be honest, I would never have thought you were struggling through a writer's block. I am in love with your story with Veroe...I adore your writing. Doing something creative that isn't writing though is another great idea. I just started growing herbs which I love! So hopefully something will start to form if I spread my creative attention elsewhere. Thank you for the advice and I wish you the best of luck with your block. You have many fans here, so know that you are an amazing talent.

MsAphrodite:
Go with the flow....easy breezy...yes, I need to get back to that place again. It is funny though, you start stressing that you can't write and the relaxation you used to find in it disappears. *laughs softly* Well, Yeishia can be very persuasive...so I am glad you had her pushing you through your block. That is the making of a true friend. But you are right; I need to find co-writers I trust, but my struggle is finding ones that I am not intimidated so much that I run into a darkened corner and hide from fear. It is almost paralysing at the moment...but I do have good friends trying to help me through. So I am thankful for that.

yeishia: Thank you sweetness. I really have no words to respond to your kind words...all except a deep thank you. *hugs tightly* You are a great friend. I am also happy to see Vassal up again! How does it feel? :D

Thank you again guys for all your words, ideas and discussions. I have taken them all on board, and hopefully I will be back to writing soon. Fingers crossed! :)

*hugs everyone tightly*
