You know you're getting old when...

Am I old?

Used to be I thought old was when the president was younger than I.

But a few days ago, I was talking to a younger friend, telling about the time I saw the Beatles in concert - in NYC - in the early 1960's, My friend was fascinated. Then I said I also saw The Kingston Trio - the original - in concert in 1959. And my friend had no idea who they were!!

I get it - I'm old.

(I'm 67)

The closest I can get to the Kingston Trio is Peter, Paul, and Mary.

I am very jealous you got to see the Beatles. Very jealous. I saw Paul McCartney in concert 4 years ago. God, it was great!

Your 18 yr old daughter suggests you listen to the new song by so and so.....you find it contains samples of a song you know from 20 years or more ago, or worse still it's a remake of said song complete with hip hop beats
Here's what really hurts: There are fewer years between "Under Pressure" by David Bowie/Queen and Vanilla Ice's "Ice Ice Baby" than there are between "Ice Ice Baby" and today.

YKYGOW

You remember seeing performances by a teen idol who is now a grandfather.

(I'm still bummed about the Donny Osmond thing.)

Just saw Donny on one of the morning chat shows here. Not a grey hair, nor a wrinkle to be seen. How much hair dye or botox went in to creating that? The guy was born the same year I was!

I saw him this morning too. He does look well-preserved. Must be all that clean living.

The FIRST concert I ever went to

was supposed to star Peter, Paul, & MAry as the headliner. There were at least 10 singers or groups, one after the other. (That's how they did it back then.)
And some young upstart with dark glasses really stole the show from everyone. Many were up in the isles dancing and swooning, especially when he rolled his tongue in that now-famous fasion that he did.
His name - Roy Orbison!

Man, I LOVE the original Kingston Trio. I'm not that old, you understand. It was my brother's favorite, yeah, that's it.

"Merry Minuet" - classic
-still could be topical today.

Of course, I love Bo Diddley too. :)

P P & M was the first concert I ever attended, probably in the mid-sixties.

One memorable concert was one with some of the lesser known British groups--Herman's Hermits and the Searchers are the only two I remember for sure. It was an outdoor concert, I was around 18 or 19, and there was beer. Which is probably why I can't remember who else was on the bill. :D

No brother

I don't even have a brother to blame. I WAS that old - and liked the Kingston Trio. Really liked Johnny Cash when I saw him in cocert as well. Some advantage to being 'older'.

You're still young

Only ankles and hips - only 15 minutes - you're still young - rest easy.

and in Ala, I might ask if you were my old girlfriend, Bubbles?
Naah, couldn't be. :)
No beer back then for us.
There was another group who was second on the list. Orbison was about third. Maybe it was the same tour?
