I completely accept that - but for you to tell me I'm wrong - when like you say you have no idea where or even when I grew up, pissed me off.I have no idea where, or when, you grew up. In today's world, even in Alabama where I am originally from it refers to both transexual and transgendered. I have never liked the term transvestite which has pretty much gone out of use in today's world by the way anyway.
I grew up in the UK and in the 70's and 80's we had never even heard of transgendered people. I have no doubt they were around - but they were well and truly hidden. ( and I most certainly do not condone that - i'm merely reporting. I was still a kid and didnt know shit from shinola)
Whether you like it or not. Transvestite was the term used then for men who dressed as women. and Tranny was it's shortened term.
The today's world you talk about, is very different from the world I grew up in. We have made a bunch of progress, and have still got a way to go. But that was how it was when and where I grew up, and you liking or disliking it - doesnt change a thing.
