Couldn't they have been a little more original?
Why didn't you come up with it if you're so creative?
I would have if anyone asked. There was a bdsm cafe long before this one.
Was something preventing you from participating in the discussion about it at the time?
Besides you, apparently, who cares if other subforums came first, or if "HT Cafe" was determined to be a suitable name?
This seems an awful lot like putrefied sour grapes to me, WD. That's a shame because I've always thought of you as the type of person who would consider the use of your idea for the good of the community as a form of flattery, rather than one who'd get upset over something as petty as the implementation of a similar concept/name years after the fact or feel he should have a monopoly on ideas and/or names. Do you also call out members who have "writer" or "dom" in their usernames or similar avatars for copying you?
you're the one who felt the need to create a new thread about it rather than using the isolated blurts thread, a fairly standard convention on several of lit's subforums. backpedaling your seeming world weariness into the boring and ever-so tired stock dismissal of "it's just a porn site" is an obvious case of ex post facto rationalization.writerdom quoth:
it's just a porn site. that's all. a porn site. don't get so fucking ruffled over nothing.

you are the one that got ruffled. don't go putting your hangups on erika.

o sure, i could do that...but that would be boring. besides, i don't believe in letting people off the hook so easily.writerdom quoth:
well put me on ignore and the thread goes away. please.
cafe au lait
1763, from Fr. café au lait, lit. "coffee with milk," from lait "milk" (12c.), from V.L. lactis, from L. lactis (see lactation).
cafe
1802, from Fr. café "coffee, coffeehouse," from It. caffe "coffee."
estaminet
1814, from Fr., "a café in which smoking is allowed," of unknown origin; some suggest a connection to estamine, a type of open woollen fabric used for making sieves, etc., from L. stamineus "made of thread."
latte
by 1990, espresso coffee with milk, short for caffè latte, from It., lit. "milk coffee" (see cafe au lait).
cafeteria
1839, Amer.Eng. from Mexican Sp. cafeteria "coffee store." The ending -teria in this word came to be popularly understood as meaning "help-yourself" (as though café + -teria) and was extended to new formation with that sense from c.1923.
Usually, but not always, and not necessarily in this community. The subforums here tend to be catch-alls for the different segments of the discussion board community. The BDSM Cafe, for instance, isn't a more specific version of BDSM Talk, it's a place where those who enjoy BDSM can get together and talk about both BDSM- and non-BDSM subjects. The same concept applies to most of the other subforums, including the HT Cafe. "Spin-off forums" would probably be a more accurate descriptor, but because they're organized under the main forums, they're "subforums."I think a better question is why it's a subforum of How To in the first place. Usually subforums are a small section of the original, not an even broader topic of taking about anything and everything.![]()
It mainly comes down to the target audience. In the case of the HT Cafe, the target audience was (and still is) How To regulars and fans/enjoyers. At the time, there was a larger core group of regulars and probably more people who didn't venture onto the GB. Making the Cafe a subforum of the GB wouldn't have made much sense to anyone, I don't think, and it probably would have discouraged many from participating and totally changed the shape of the discussions. It could have worked and brought more diversity to the forum, but especially at the time, it made the most sense to make it a subforum of How To.Actually, that doesn't help at all. I already knew why the forum exists. I just meant that it would have made more sense to be its own forum rather than a subforum of How To. If it really had to be a subforum, it could have, instead, been a moderated subforum of General Board. Afterall, the moderation would make it a restricted subsection of the General Board topic of posting whatever you want.
It was four years ago, time to let it go.
Interestingly enough, I've mentioned to a friend that perhaps the Café ought to be merged back into the HT.
It might have been a knee jerk reaction or better idea four years ago (can't believe it's been that long). I don't know if it's needed or even causes confusion about the board (regardless of LadyG defining it in the sticky).
Anyone have any thoughts on this? No, WriterDom, not the name.![]()
